I was told by my Gp that my cholesterol was dangerously high at 8.3 and I needed to urgently be put on statins but I am already on so much medication for other things so I begged my Gp to allow me to try to do it myself just through changing what I eat ( as I am bedridden 22hrs a day in chronic pain so can’t do it through exercise) and I was comfort eating although I wasn’t eating huge amounts I wasn’t keeping an eye on the saturated fat content etc… so because of this app I now know exactly what I need to be eating and I stick to it daily logging everything down ( I actually had a lot of help and support off one of the customer service members who was wonderful and helped me understand what I needed to do)As a result I have managed to get to a healthy BMI and I haven’t been in the 9st range since my 20’s ( I’m 57 now) and despite trying for absolute years to diet I could only manage to lose a pound of two despite my efforts but by using this app I have lost nearly 2stone without the fact I can’t exercise because of my disability. It has taught me to eat much healthier and I’m actually more but just the right things. I highly highly recommend this app. If like me you have been struggling for years and nothing has changed!
App would be great if is was set up properly

I found out by accident that the app is incorrect which is leading to lots of people been on way too low calories. Behind the scenes the section asking about leisure time activity has been turned off. So it doesn’t matter what you put it will be ignored. Your deficit is based purely on work activity. So if you pick 1lb a week loss then You will get 500 cals a day knocked off the calories the app says you need for your work activity. If you are then active outside of work and burn say 700 calories you would be in a 1200 deficit not 500. They say you are supposed to know that and eat those activity calories back. But people don’t know that. I asked when The app will be changed and got told it’s with the developer. So come on Nutracheck sort this out. You have a great app in the main but this is spoiling it, never mind putting people on way too low caloriesUpdate in reply to dev response. The very fact when you fill in your details you are asked about leisure activity and given guidance on which level to pick implies that you will use that information to calculate a deficit. It needs taking out of the app as it’s pointless and very confusing. You say even if people aren’t aware it’s turned off the app adds back their activity. But they switch to separate because people are not told to eat them back and the advice for people even in the nutracheck app forum is don’t eat activity calories back. So my question still stands why have a setting in the app which is completely irrelevant and confusing
Developer Response
Hi there, I'm sorry you are concerned about the targets the app provides. To explain, rather than automatically adding extra calories you might need to support your chosen activity level, we expect users to be tracking all the exercise they actually do in the app. The default diary view then ensures additional calories are added back onto your allowance for the day. We feel this is a more accurate way to calculate how many calories a user needs rather than us estimating a figure. To ensure users are aware of this, a note is going to be added to the activity levels page when they sign up. But even if someone is not aware, when they track their food and exercise, the app automatically compensates for the calories they burn by increasing their food target. If you have any further questions, please contact us (customercare@nutracheck.co.uk) and we'll be happy to help. Best wishes, Daisy, Nutracheck Team.
Over engineered App
Man-on-a-mission
I’ve been using this app for several weeks now. It’s okay. My main gripe is that it has too many features – it’s over engineered and there are too many gimmicks. I think it’s wrong to include calories lost through exercise. The app should just focus on calorie intake – any exercise is an added bonus but shouldn’t be included in the count (especially since what the App thinks I have burned through exercise doesn't actually reflect what I do in the gym for 2 hours 4 times a week). My other gripe is that you cannot edit an entry once included in the diary – well I haven’t found a way of doing it yet. Very annoying. You have to delete the entry and then re-enter it. Although I have subscribed for one month I will not be renewing it – the reason being that I’ve been able to replicate the DIARY and PROGRESS features in the app using mobile Microsoft Excel on my iPhone. Okay I won’t have a barcode reader using Excel but I can read food labels and work out the calorie intake for myself. Since posting my review the developer has contacted me. They explained how to separate exercise from the overall daily total - but have missed the point. I don’t think exercise should be available through the calorie app at all. The developer also explained diary entries can be edited by selecting the entry and then editing using the pop up at the bottom of the page. Problem is only 2 options are available - DELETE or COPY, not EDIT. My other gripe since posting the original review is that the App can only be used when connected to the internet. Grrr!!
Developer Response
Hi there, thanks for the review and for clarifying your feedback. The separate view keeps your food and exercise separate, so any exercise isn't added onto your food target for the day. Your request to completely remove the exercise target has been duly noted! With regards to editing an item in your diary - is this a 'Quick Add' item you would like to amend? If so, this is treated as a one-off entry and so the option to edit isn't currently available. If you have any further suggestions or queries just drop an email to customercare@nutracheck.co.uk - we're happy to help. Helen, Nutracheck Team
Fab app! Only two tweaks needed...

I am using this app alongside loosely following Slimming World (using an old membership pack, not attending meeting or paying their fees). It’s been really helpful in helping me understand exactly what I am eating, and tempering the free foods allowed by SW by providing a reality check as to how many calories I am consuming each day. The exercise diary is good, I should probably use it more! The motivation emails and rosettes are keeping me on track. Adding in my own recipes has really simplified my diarising efforts. Adding a new scanned food, which I have had to do twice, is straight forward enough. The nutrition interfaces with the health app on my iPhone, but the weigh in’s and measurements do not- I think this is something that could be improved but as I am only doing waist measurement and weigh in, it hasn’t beeen too much of a burden. The addition of a notes area each day would be an excellent addition as well and would help us to recall why we might’ve eaten what on which day. I do find that, nearly five weeks into using the app, I am relying on it more than the SW philosophy as I’ve lost a stone during that time by sticking to the calorie levels prescribed by the app and not looking so much at free foods and Syns.
No big changes this time – just a few smart fixes to keep things running smoothly in the background.
