Best app in the store. Just wish you could edit workouts more freely.

Let me start by saying if you are unsure on whether or not to get this app, get it. It is so easy to use, rigorous and gives a near complete training program for both beginners and intermediates. The program is designed to stick to compound lifts are target major muscle groups. The subscription is fully worth purchasing, and gives a simple guide to how to warm up and the ability to add on additional isolation exercises at the end. Additionally if you do not have time for 5x5 or it becomes too taxing, you have the option to switch to 3x5. My only complaint is that you cannot edit the core exercises for each workout. Now there is a good reason for this, as it ensures that you stick to the system (which I recommend) for the best results. However, individuals who suffer from conditions prohibiting them from certain lifts (such as supraspinatus tendinitis, which produces pain with barbell press), are unable to replace these exercises with a suitable alternative (such as standing/seated dumbbell press in the above case). Whilst the muscles targeted may not be identical, I personally believe that this app should give the freedom to allow edits. That’s just a thought, and I do hope one day such an option will be offered to subscribed users.
Can’t understand the good reviews

The beginners program is ridiculous- you can’t lift the beginner weights listed in this app (30kg barbell row for beginners?!). Divide the weight by 3 - a male healthy beginner should be lifting around 10kg. Don’t be upset if u can’t lift what this app states you should be able to. Utterly ridiculous. The app asks you to “log” your workout before you can view history but there’s no “log workout” button anywhere, so I can’t speak much to it being intuitive.. Reply to developer response: “most men beginners can dead lift 30kg” - well i’ve actually lifted many times before so I’m not a beginner (just had a couple years break), I’m of average height & strength compared to most men & everyone I know including personal trainers say the same thing (30-40kg is way too much for beginners & almost no one starts that high unless they’ve done weight lifting before (eg removal men), so your insistence that “most men beginners can lift 40kg” both doesn’t hold up & alienates most beginners. Implying people can lift “less than most beginners” is not a positive way to encourage people to start or continue weight lifting.

It is impossible to suggest starting weights that are perfect for every single person on the planet because everyone is different. Most men do not have any issues lifting the suggested starting weights which are the empty bar by default for squat, bench, ohp and a small plate on each side for rows. We know this because we track this. But if you think it is too much, you can easily lower the weight in the app. Just open the workout, tap the weight, and decrease it. Done. There is no shame in being a little weaker when starting out as it just means you'll progress faster, and so it doesn't matter. Excellent app - increased strength and improved technique

I use Winter for weight training, and I used to just lift weights doing lots of reps and swapping routines around as I fancied it. I thought I was making progress, but felt I might be missing something. A good Google session led me to this app, and within a few days I was happy to pay for the pro subscription. So easy to use, lots of customisations to suit, and it actually works. I can see and feel the difference. Started from the lowest weight, to get the right techniques, and now progressing with every session. What’s best is that I don’t have to think. Life is too busy, too stressful, and too mentally demanding on me - but with this app I can train, switch off following simple instructions, and see results. Dev / Owner is super responsive to requests too. Overall a brilliant app for building strength and muscle.

Best Lifting App Hands Down

I’ve been a strength and conditioning coach for 21 years so have always known the benefits of 5x5 and have used it on and off over the years to great effect. It’s straightforward, it’s simple and it works.Due to a back issue I’ve had recently I needed to reset completely, right back to an empty bar and rehab exercises. When you are used to lifting heavy this can be a very hard thing to get your head round.I decided to get the StrongLifts app as I thought it would keep me on track, and it has. The app is fantastic and the way it links with the iWatch is superb. It’s very customisable and is everything you need in a lifting app. It’s the most expensive app I’ve ever bought but it’s worth every penny in my opinion! For beginners or advanced lifters it’s all you need. Thanks Medhi
