For the longest time, I believed burnout was something I had complete control over, something I could avoid if I just managed my time better or pushed through the exhaustion. But I’ve come to realize that burnout isn’t just about working too hard in the moment, it’s the result of years of habits and traits I once thought were simply part of who I was.Perfectionism has been both my greatest strength and my biggest obstacle. Striving for excellence has always driven me, but it also set an impossible standard, one that left little room for rest, mistakes, or anything less than the best. Over time, this mindset made burnout inevitable. The pressure to always deliver perfection meant I ignored my limits, convinced that if I just worked harder or structured my time better, I could somehow avoid the crash. So far I am happy with the app and some of the answers it has provided me with to better understand why i feel constantly fatigued.

Takes your money time and data

I must have been feeling quite desperate and hoping there was something new out there to help me. But after I entered a lot of personal details and spent some days logging my mood, I didn’t see where it was going. I already have a psychology degree and have meditated 20 years. I just always hope something new will be discovered that can help so I keep trying things. I got nothing out of this. I disabled notifications because I would be interrupted doing things proactively to improve my life, with this app asking me how I’m feeling, which reminded me I feel bad. And because I disabled notifications I forgot the app was there. I thought I could stop the subscription renewing by entering card details of a card I hardly use, then freezing the card. But that doesn’t work. So I paid a month without noticing. I only happened to be awake late at night on the next renewal date, and I saw a pending payment to the liven. I could hardly remember what it was. I went to the app and cancelled my subscription right away, which is a process they make slightly difficult on purpose. I know this because I am a software developer and an expert in user interface design. It is so sad that companies look to exploit people at their worst moments, when they are not functioning as well as normal like me, and just take money and data. I had to wait in a queue in the middle of the night to talk to support to stop the pending change for this month. And I’m writing this review because I can’t go to bed just feeling like I have been so stupid and so used. At least I can do something to try and help someone else not fall for it.

Exploitative Tactics Disguised as Support for Profit
Harryt2336
This app promotes itself through deeply irresponsible and offensive advertising, including captions like “Ways ADHD makes you abusive.” Messaging like this is not only inaccurate—it is damaging. It exploits vulnerable people by framing a neurological condition in a way that encourages shame and self-blame, all to drive downloads. This is manipulative and unethical. People who are struggling with their mental health or neurodivergence deserve real support, not to be targeted by fear-based marketing. On top of this, the app restricts meaningful self-improvement features behind steep paywalls, which further shows that the priority lies more with monetisation than genuine support. I understand that quality services require funding—but when emotional manipulation is paired with excessive pricing, it becomes clear that the business model prioritises profit over people. Seeking help is important, but it should come from sources that treat individuals with dignity and provide real value—not from platforms that rely on stigma and shame to sell themselves. As someone with ADHD who is fortunate to now be on the better side of it thanks to medical treatment and genuine support, I find this app’s approach deeply discriminatory. It reinforces the very stigma so many of us work hard to overcome. No one should be made to feel ashamed of their condition in order to be sold a service. I would not recommend this app to anyone—especially not those who are vulnerable and seeking real, compassionate help.

Brilliant but also disappointing
Doubleoseddon
I used the app for a month and it was excellent. The AI feature didn’t feel like AI most of the time, other than when it asked a question at the end of every answer. But it did feel like talking to a real person and the advice and conversations were super-helpful and insightful. However the experience was spoilt by Liven’s aggressive subscription model. For example they are not transparent about subscription fees. I have read lots about users who continued to be charged when they thought that they had cancelled. I couldn’t find a definitive breakdown of costs and felt patronised by the phrase, “The price of the Liven app adjusts gently based on the subscription option you choose. Discover a plan that beautifully aligns with your personal needs and aspirations.” 😮 Hippy nonsense and incredibly irritating too. I am disappointed that this is the case, particularly as the app itself is built around well-being and compassion. It seems that beneath the surface lurks the same cynical money-making model as everything else. Also a shame because the app is really good but it does now feel like I was being drawn into a cult.
Developer Response
Warm hello!Thank you for sharing your experience. We care that everything feels transparent and aligned with the values you saw in our app, and want to help clear up what may have caused concern. Glad to hear that our app itself felt helpful and meaningful to you, and we appreciate you noticing the care behind the conversations and guidance. At the same time, we understand how important it is for the subscription side to feel clear. We would like to clarify that the price of a Liven plan does not change after purchase. All plan options, costs, and renewal details are shown before activation, and a confirmation email is sent right after. The wording you mentioned is not meant to suggest shifting or hidden pricing, and we would really appreciate knowing where exactly you saw that message so we can review it carefully and make sure it is presented in a clear and honest way.Subscriptions can always be managed or canceled directly in our app under Settings in the Membership section, or by contacting us. We want this process to feel simple and predictable, without any confusion about ongoing charges. If you would like, please write to us at trust@theliven.com and mention this review. We'll locate your account, check the refund possibility, and make sure everything is explained properly. We want your experience to feel consistent from the emotional support inside our app to the practical details around membership.
Kind reminder: Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
We've smoothed things out with a cleaner, more refined interface and some thoughtful design touches. Behind the scenes, performance improvements and bug fixes keep everything running quietly and beautifully, so you can focus on what matters.
