maps + more 4+

Having just bought a new UP! I thought I had better get this app as is was pushed as a selling feature when I went into the dealer to look. Although it does work ok, it’s not amazing. The maps interface feels dated and over all the app feels a bit ‘clunky’ to use which is disappointing. I feel a significant update to provide better value for money is needed considering the cost of the vehicle and this being a main feature. It works most of the time, but does crash regularly, loses connection with my iPhone and the most annoying bit is the phone goes to sleep as they haven’t integrated the auto ‘keep awake’ most iPhone apps have. I think 3 stars is being generous considering the competition are doing it so right, please make some updates VW as you used to be top of your game!

The latest update WAS significantly better until iOS 11 happened after which Siri support seem almost unusable. Now when you say ‘Hey Siri’ the it take a while for the car microphone to connect and for the entertainment system to mute. During this delay Siri appears to be listening - the result is you can rally give any useful instruction to Siri before speech from the radio or music interferes. PLEASE please field test the app with the latest iOS 11 and correct this issue. I can not longer dictate reminders or test messages.

On the down side it's seems to get less reliable traffic updates - sometimes it appears to get no updates and gives you routes right into heart of congestion. Switch to apple or google maps show that they know where the traffic is. I use the GPS to try and avoid traffic on my regular commute. Having unreliable traffic updates make less inclined to us it. If it were able to alert me when it was unable to get traffic updates or at least tell me when the last update was received then I'd have more confidence.

I find it irritating that when I press the media or radio button on the car dashboard that it changes the screen on the app. I'd much rather the screen on the car media display just show me the music track or radio channel and leave the app screen alone.

I would still like to see better Siri integration e.g. "Hey Siri, use Up to play <song>" or "Hey Siri, use Up to set route to Home'

I traded my old UP with it’s Maps+More infotainment system which I really liked for a new UP with this awful smartphone app. The app is not at all intuitive and has no manual other that the very unhelpful pamphlet that comes with it The volume is too quiet but my husband managed to fix that after half an hour of fiddling with it as there was no instructions on this. The instructions are sometimes slow for example yesterday my nav told me to take a left turn then 2 seconds later said take a right turn so I changed lanes and then 2 seconds later it went back to saying left turn. There is nowhere to save favourites which is really frustrating so you can’t save a house under a name eg Jess house. It also sometimes chooses a route which I know is a worse slower route without giving me options to choose. I paid for the infotainment system in this car to get sat nav and now I will have to buy a separate sat nav anyway.
VW need to sort this out because it’s a waste of money and affecting the good name of VW.
