Patreon 12+

I’m new to Patreon, having recently signed up to support a podcast. I’m not sure if it’s just me, but the app seems to be missing a lot of basic functions - I can’t filter the podcast episodes by date, or by type (Patreon bonus episodes or normal episodes), or even search for specific episodes. I find myself using the Patreon website instead as it has slightly better functionality, but it’s still very lacking in basic features which makes it a frustrating experience.

UPDATE: Since I wrote this review there have been updates which allow me to search for certain podcast types from the creator I follow, as well as filtering by oldest first. This is exactly what I wanted and needed, thank you! Great app.

… but still one the most reliable ways to pay creators you enjoy regularly, which is why I’m giving it 2 stars and not one.

But, honestly, I was trying to update my email which was being glitchy and wouldn’t let me do the normal way and since getting in contact with customer support and so far they have only made the problem worse.

Originally, I was still able to log in to use my account and access my rewards but since they “tried to help” I have had my log ins broken so I can’t get in but I’m still getting charged. To get it sorted, before the log I was broken, they requested a ridiculously long list of requirements to prove who I am, including but not limited to: The IP address in using, the dates and amounts of my last 2 payments to them and card details from those payments (even though I pay through PayPal so they don’t have that info)

I told them I could still log in (because I could at the time) so they shouldn’t need that info but I couldn’t change my email. They asked me to do a screen record to show the issue, which is when the log in stopped working. I told them this and they’ve ignored me for a week now so I’m probably going to get charged again without access.

Absolutely appalling. Definitely gone downhill since they started doing investment rounds - clearly prioritising their market value over their usability…

Up until now i had never had a problem with Patreon, as long as you read the fine print on the pages to make sure your aware of what your paying for and if it’s in advance or not.

But I finally decided to cancel a sub I had (which was a pay in advance one and bearing in mind I had taken it out at the end of a month, originally, so ended up paying 2 months subs in a week) last charge was April 1st (so should still of been subbed till end of April).
So last week I decided to cancel said sub, before collecting my tier rewards, only to find out even tho my subscription got charged on the 1st...
Once I cancelled it removed everything from my subscription to the follow of that Patreon, so lost all access to my rewards I’ve already paid for.

Ok you think, a quick message to Patreon support and it will get sorted within a day or two but no, it’s been a week and I’ve still not had a single message back from them.

What’s worst is I’m within my right to go to my payment provider to demand a refund but then it’s the person you subbed to who get punished with the chargeback charge, as well as losing the subscription your refunded, so Patreon get off scot-free.

Will update this review if they actually bother to solve this problem for me, but not holding my breath on them bothering to contact me back, if current customer service is anything to go by.
