What’s New

Version 7.19

Hey! I believe some of you still read these in a world of auto updates so here we go! Version 7.19, hot off the press! Before we list the changes one important note:
- If you were signed in before this update, you'll likely be signed out. This is because we've migrated App Store accounts. We'll prompt you about this in the app as well but noting it here in case you miss it ;)

Ok, onto the highlights!
- The app is now translated into 11 new languages which is a first for one. So if things look different, you know why! If you're language is not yet available let us know and we'll consider adding it!
- Fixed quite a few new iOS 15 issues, including the Up Next drag handles being hard to see
- Fixed some accessibility issues in our player, including making some of the effects panels easier to read and close
- Fixed an issue where some share links would open our app, then Safari. Now they should take you to the content you want more reliably
- Fixed issues with artwork loading on the widget, and also improved the widget quite a bit
- Our support contact us form should now work regardless of if you have Apple Mail configured or not
- Fixed an issue where an auto download starting on WiFi could sometimes finish on cellular
- Fixed some issues that could cause episode titles to be missing the podcast name

Can’t access account, no response from devs (as yet)

After getting fed up with the app failing to sync new episodes and displaying no data in the Discover section, I decided to sign out and back in to my account, hoping this might straighten the app out. I’m now unable to sign in because my password is apparently incorrect, and neither the app nor the website will allow me to change my password (“Failed to send reset email: Please try again later”). I paid a tenner for an annual Plus subscription. I would like this sorted, please.

*Just heard from admin - Fingers crossed. 🤞🏻

The best option out there

I guess many people will be confused at the (currently) low rating for this fantastic app. This is a legacy of a major update that caused users a lot of problems - including myself - I personally experienced years worth of listening history disappearing and mass archiving of episodes (1000s of episodes) for no obvious reason. It took weeks and weeks to sort out the issues manually. There were various other issues that are well documented.

However, this is far past: the app is absolutely fantastic now. Rock solid reliability, syncing works well, granular controls, excellent filtering options, pleasing UI etc etc. I almost never do reviews, but I cannot bear an app that provides me so much utility and pleasure languishing on a 3.2 rating.

I’m subscribed to 100s of podcasts and listen to many hours a week: Pocketcasts is the best option that I keep returning to, despite some strong rivalry from Apple Podcasts and Overcast.

It’s a shame the app is burdened with the legacy of a botched update. If it’s your first time, then go for it; if you’re thinking of coming back then you should. I did.

I cannot comprehend how the app is - once again - anything less than a 5* app.

Great app!

A few feature suggestions:
- Folders, or line breaks between icons because i do a confuse (and maybe an option to separate upcoming lists by category)
- A 'binge podcast as serial' button that automatically starts at the earliest episode, overrides the playlist when you're using it, keeps your place whenever you come back to it, and always makes sure it has the next few episodes downloaded ready if connected to wifi. Maximum hands free laziness.
- An inbuilt browser that lets you instantly pull up an accompanying page on an external websites (eg Paeleocast) - maybe you'd have to crowdsource all the links but you are clever so you will find a way
- on the 'now playing' screen, clicking the podcast icon image should take you to the podcast page. I stab at it in vain every time.
- some sort of waffle-to-sausage ratio thing that lets you warn other users of perpetually self-referential narcissistic gasbags that never get to the point while simultaneously highlighting the meaty episodes with deliciously informative content.
- Maybe add user-generated tags because some good podcasts have stupid names unrelated to what they are about and i will never find them and die alone
