I’ve stopped using OneDrive, but improvements are still needed

Since Proton released their Proton Drive app for Mac I’ve been able to transfer all of my files from OneDrive to Proton Drive, and it works great.

However, one or two improvements are still needed. The biggest one for me is the ability to “Share” files straight into Proton Drive on iPhone, rather than having to download it to your iPhone storage first before uploading it to Proton Drive. All the major cloud storage apps have this feature, and it’s strange that Proton Mail does appear as an option when you share a file on iPhone. Perhaps it’s just my iPhone, but Proton Drive doesn’t appear as an option when you try and edit which apps appear as options when you share a file.

Another feature that would be really useful is the ability to sync your photos with Proton Drive. Again, this is a feature that all the other major cloud storage apps offer, so it would be great if Proton did too.

The benefits of Proton Drive still vastly outweigh these minor inconveniences, but the product would be 5 stars when the developers add these features and the features that others have mentioned.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us! Implementing the photo backup functionality to our iOS app is a high priority for us and it should become available in the upcoming period. Moreover, we are working on supporting uploads to Proton Drive via the iOS share button on future. In the meantime, you can upload your files directly via Files - opt to 'Save to Files' and browse for Proton Drive in the offered Locations.

No working URL sharing

Colour me suspicious re the ‘glowing’ reviews. This app doesn’t work with any other files app on iOS unless you disable EVERYTHING you want the app for in the first place. And after some bizarre warning about your choice of browser having insufficient service workers - that no other app in the lifespan of the iPhone has ever displayed - be prepared to feel like you’ve been conned after sitting watching the equivalent of paint dry, while some download bar goes all the way to the end only to get: ‘Download Failed’. They should have just called the app that! Reply: Thank you for responding, appreciate the time. Good to hear integration is ‘in the cards’. Re downloading: sharing a file via url does not work on iPhone using safari, DuckDuckGo or Firefox. All display this message: Browser might run out of memory Your current browser does not support the downloading of large files due to the unavailability of service workers. Several files of 1gb have been tested, the result is a 100% download + decrypt message - but no file is created or saved. Recipients see same result, no files.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for taking the time and leaving us a review. At this time, proton Drive does not support direct integrations with third-party solutions. However, we are working on supporting this functionality, as well as many other essential features, in the upcoming updates of the app. In the meantime, you can opt to 'Save to Files' and browse for Proton Drive in the offered Locations. Can you please share more information with us regarding the failed download in an update to your review? Do you encounter this behavior with a specific file only or all files? In the meantime, try logging out and then back in the app, to see if it helps. EDIT: Please advise us of the exact steps you take when you receive this error in a support request at https://proton.me/support/contact. We'd be more than happy to assist you with troubleshooting. In the meantime, please double-check if you have enough free RAM on your device.

Good but could do with some tweaks

This app works well, files and photos load fast and they can be accessed offline. I would however suggest making it possible to scroll to the next or previous file rather then having to close it down and select the next one. I would also like to see the ability to change the order of files and folders. That aside it works great. By change the order of files I mean being able to sort them in any order you wish. I see they can be sorted by file size, last modified, A-Z ect but to be able to order them yourself in any order you wish. This option may be available and I just haven't worked it out but if not that would be a good addition.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for taking the time to review our app! This feature is already on our roadmap, and we hope to implement it in one of our future updates.

Can you please clarify what you mean by changing the order of folders and files? You can already sort files in the Proton Drive app. We'd be happy to forward your feedback to the appropriate team.
