Good idea in principle! Unfortunately I scanned 5 different items & had to add the information myself for all 5. I’ve read previous comments & I’m aware this is a reasonably new app, so adding vast amounts of data takes time. It’s just a shame, as I hoped at least 1 item I scanned may already be added. Also you can’t search for any items without a barcode, so scanning fruit etc is not possible. Be interesting to see how this app develops but for now it’s seems it’s work in progress unfortunately. Hence 3 stars.

The app often fails to open iOS 17.4The setup went well no issuesI scanned my first barcode, but the product was not found. I was surprised as the item was a common product. Then, I was asked a lot of technical questions about the packaging. I don’t think your average Joe would have such knowledge. So, I guessed which kind of defeats the purpose of the app. On contacting Scrapp about the scanning feature Scrapp's response was “ This is something we are working on, and we hope to make more products available soon. Any brand and retailer is allowed to upload completely for free and we have solid product coverage mainly in the USA. What makes getting a high product hit rate increasingly difficult is that if an item has a slightly different size it has a separate barcode.”Good idea but needs to be foolproof or no incentive to use it.

This has the potential to be a great app but for one fundamental flaw. It relies on users to create the database which in turn, relies on everyone entering data to be 100% accurate. That’s never going to happen and incorrect data will result in other people either recycling what they shouldn’t or not recycling what they should. Added to that, it is not immediately obvious how to correct errors and even when you do discover how to do this the app won’t always let you save the edits. The only options then are to either leave it or report the error to the developers but this is tedious especially as it seems to be the case for about 50% of the items in the database, however, most products I have recycled haven’t actually been listed in the first place.

I really like the app and the idea is brilliant… However I tried scanning 3 products and 2 were not recognised and 1 had the wrong information (Marmite saying lid was aluminium). App people need to spend several days in well known supermarkets filling in the info themselves as relying on crowd sourced data will mean quality is poor. If quality of information is poor it undermines the whole app. But looking forward to seeing how the app evolves, good effort!
