Description
The purpose of Swift Mapper is to record the location of nesting swifts around the UK. It will build a picture of where nesting swifts are concentrated, enabling local conservation action for this incredible bird to be focused in the right places. All the data submitted will be available to anyone interested in swifts and their conservation, to help them locate swift hotspots in their local area. In this way we hope that Swift Mapper will provide an easy and free to use conservation mapping tool, enabling local authority planners, architects, ecologists, developers, and a wide range of organisations and individuals interested in swift conservation determine where existing swift nest sites need to be protected, and where new nesting opportunities for swifts would be best provided. By doing this, we hope that this data will play an important role in helping to reverse the decline of this charismatic migrant bird.
Please record all appropriate swift observations (see the app for further information). Your records can make a big difference to the conservation of these amazing birds.

Ratings and Reviews
Current year mapping
It would be great if the app could give the possibility of selecting just the current year so we could see swift distribution build as sightings come in each year.
As far as I can see there is no option for this on the map and you have to click each registered sighting to see the year. It would be so good to be able to filter so you can just see the present year.
With the thousands of existing entries from all the previous years finding swifts sightings for the current year it is like looking for a needle in the ocean.
A good start
On my iPhone X the locator does not work - the app does not ask for permissions for location data and there’s no Swift Mapper section in settings to enable it.
Really needs a filter (like the website) so you can choose the years to see on the map. I’d like to see 2020 only to track the arrival of Swifts across the country. Got excited to notice a record in our village, only to discover it was from last year.
Fixed it.
Updated following revision in late May 20. Much better with all functions now working. Hopefully this will provide a clearer view of how much the UK swift population has changed over recent years.
Developer Response ,
Hi there. Many thanks for letting us know about this issue. We believe we have now found the source of the reduced visibility with the number spinner you were experiencing and we have rectified it in the latest build. If you are able to reinstall you should find that the problem is resolved. We hope you love using the app.
