Good app, but doesn’t work in the background

This is a fairly decent app for displaying photos and showing them in different ways. The only thing I find irritating is that you seem to need to open it in order for it to upload your new photos from your phone, even when Background app refresh is selected. Compare it with Google photos, for example, which constantly works in the background to keep uploaded photos up to date.
Hopefully this can be fixed for new versions of Moments.

Great if you want to manage your own photo cloud

Have been using for about 2 weeks now.
Brought all my photos over from Mac Photos app using the uploaded app.
Moments has catalogued them according to time, location, faces, themes etc. and they are now available to me on any mac or any of my iOS devices. Photos from my phone will automatically upload to it. I can share any photos with other people. The metadata of all photos is also very easy to access.
I am very happy to be out of the Mac photos/iCloudphotos/photostream ecosystem that was proving to be a real headache. This is a much simpler solution - now I know where my photos are, I have a backup on my NAS and can even backup to other locations if necessary. I don’t understand the bad reviews. This product might not be for everyone’s use case, but for me it does what it says and does it well.

Good Start

This works pretty well for me and I wonder why it's got so many bad reviews. I’ve put about twenty thousand photos into the moments folder on my NAS and whilst it took several days to process them (I believe to index and generate thumbnails used for quick previewing) what I like is that I’m able to preserve my desired directory structure (I have a folder per album) and my original photos are also unmodified and so I can get them out easily in the future. The app itself works pretty well and whilst it’s definitely not yet as mature as some of the competition I think it’s still pretty capable and I’ve also not had it crash on me. Only criticism would be that a handful of photos seem to have been missed from thumbnail generation and so I'm not able to view them and as far as I can see there’s no obvious way to force it to update them - but this is for a very small number of photos.
