This is the companion app for parents and staff of schools, nurseries and child minders that use the Tapestry online learning journal.

This is the new version with all the latest features. An older version, for older devices, remains available if you search the app store for Tapestry Journal.

You can use this app to see what your child has achieved at school, nursery or with their child minder.

You can use this app to quickly add an observation to Tapestry of what a child or group of children are doing. You can speedily include text, videos, pictures and assessments using the EYFS, Montessori and other frameworks. You can then later use the app to review and edit those observations and then approve them to be shared with relatives.

Once uploaded from the app, you can use the web version of Tapestry to review and analyse the progress of children individually and in groups and, if you wish, create PDF journals of a child's time at your setting to share with the child's relatives.

This is not a standalone app. Your school, nursery of childminder needs to be using the Tapestry online learning journal system and they need to issue you with a login and password before you can use this app.

Privacy & Data Protection:

The school/nursery/child minder that is cares for your child is in charge of the data that is stored in Tapestry: what is done with it, how long it is stored, who it is shared with. In the jargon, they are the 'data controller' and we are the 'data processor'.

We only use the data you enter to provide, fix and improve the service you see: an online
learning journal. To be absolutely clear: we don’t use the data for marketing; we don’t
share the data with others to do marketing.

The school, nursery or childminder should be able to provide you with a full privacy policy that includes the way they use Tapestry.

If you are interested in the information and commitments we give the school/nursery/childminder you can read a copy of the contract we have with them at

If you provide it in the website please provide in the app.

I’ve just started using this app which my my daughters school uses, thinking this would be great for when I’m at work and commuting etc. It’s nice to see the observations and comment on what she has been doing.

However, it doesn’t have everything the website does. You have to log in through the website via the computer to access documents, which is a hassle when out and about or if I’m not near my own computer. Its also runs everything in a time-line which is frustrating. There’s no separate tab for memos, activities, observations so you have to scroll. It’s doesn’t feel complete or organised.

Our our old school used a much more comprehensive app that was easier to use to find everything that was also accessible on the website.

If I’m honest yes I love the observations, but I really need the the app for the memos, activities and documents for when I have forgotten something! It’s not particularly user friendly.

There is potential - please keep working on it.

Lost work several times

Using the app as a practitioner.

This has happened several times now and is very frustrating. I have spent 20+ minutes selecting assessment levels, stopped to think for a moment, phone has locked and when I unlock it and log back in all the work is lost.

It would be better if when logging back in, the assessment selected before the phone auto locked could be remembered.

I love tapestry!

The features it provides for practitioners is amazing, exactly what every setting needs. Learning journals, send framework, day diary’s, 2 year progress checks and summative assessments, just naming some of them.

However, the app limits you from soooo much! You can only upload observations, which is quick and easy, I admit. But if you could add a day diary on there and progress checks, it means my staff can also have a quick and efficient way of uploading other reports. As you know it is difficult to find time to do these, so convenience is the key. I am finding easy paper tools which are not environmentally friendly to offer my staff the easiest way to document, which needs to be fit into their crazy day of nappy changing, snacks and craft activities.

The app would be perfect if there was an extra drop down.
