Super cricket super fun

Cricket is on fire! The Hundred is a tremendous format. Pairing two matches together is genius. Great value and such a clever idea. You can choose to have 4 hours cricket over 6 hours or less in 3/4 hours. Women players, men players, it’s all been compelling spectating. I have never seen such excited and safe family sporting family entertainment. And getting a younger and more female audience is crucial to the future of the old game.

Thanks ECB. You don’t get enough plaudits for your courageous vision and strategy.

Crap

The hundred is a dreadful form of cricket which takes the mick. It is destroying the county system and dessamated the royal London one day cup. It is telling young children and non cricketers that this is the best form of cricket when all true cricketers know that it is a joke of format. The ECB are just money grabbing while making it out like they are trying to get more kids interested in the game however they are destroying the red ball game in England. We have seen over the last few years how the England test side has failed in the last few years and we are relying on 3 players to carry the side. We seen the failures of the batting lineup and have two players who would get in any other team around the world. While are bowling has been decent, it has been mainly due to James Anderson and Stuart broad who won’t be around longer. And when they are gone I hate to say but I don’t know how we will win a game. The ECB are happy with this and are willing to let it continue. They are happy seeing the red ball team fail as long as the crowds keep on coming. Instead of trying to help the red ball game continue to thrive and see are country rise once again in the test match ranks they happy to neglect and willing to let it burn as long as the “initiative” new format does reasonably well.

In conclusion, the hundred is a joke and I truly believe that the ECB have made a huge mistake and they are neglecting the true game that has been around for over 100 years.

Love The Hundred; hate the app!

Good points first: showing match day tickets works well and the COVID checks are painless and efficient.

And while the game itself shouldn’t matter as far as a review of the app is concerned, we’re very much enjoying it as a family. I’m still a test match guy, but it’s wonderful seeing my kids take an excited interest.

So, those are the positive things I can think of.

I’m going to assume that they’ve tried to be vibrant and edgy. Because if it’s not that, it’s a complete UX amateur hour that’s been thrown together reactively without any thought or logical design structure.

Seriously, I can’t find ANYTHING. Even scores in ongoing games are hard to fathom. Want to find a match result? You need to scroll past every single game in the tournament so far to find it because the most recent is at the very bottom. Want to read news? Well, there’s bits of it. Somewhere, though I can’t remember how I found it now.

It’s the equivalent of somebody writing useful information on brightly coloured pieces of paper and putting the lot through a shredder to jumble it up in small snippets and then calling the output an app. Good luck finding anything, but ooh, it looks fresh.

I’d like to see more stats, but I’ll concede that I’m maybe not the target demographic. Even just a worm would be good.

Suspect we’re stuck with it for this year. But please, throw it away and try again next year??
