Could do better
I like the idea of the app, but the reality is that it seldom works as it should. I’ve been going to the same Toby Carvery every week for the past year and it was smooth sailing initially, for the past 4 visits I’ve been unable to pay using the app. Usually our meal details don’t appear in the app. Today I got logged out and asked to re-enter my password, but the app insisted that there was no internet connection - even on their WiFi - though the staff person’s phone and the wireless payment reader were working fine and my phone should have been able to connect via 3. Frustrating!
I have to say I’ve had no problems at all with either booking or paying on the app. But I have had trouble with the “rewards”. The first one I tried was for a desert and the waitress said it wouldn’t scan, the next one a few weeks later was for a dinner, was told to get it scanned at the bar, this was easier said than done. The staff don’t seem to know how to process these or are reluctant to. Am I right in thinking customers are able to get a “stamp” after a visit too? If this is the case the staff are reluctant to give those too. Myself and my family are regulars at Toby and all love it, but this reward business was a bit embarrassing
No stamp if paying by app
I’ve just eaten at Bessacarr Toby. Saw the info on the table that said how to pay using the app. States as bold as brass that it cuts out the need to wait to pay. I followed the instructions, got told I was free to go and received the receipt by email. What I didn’t receive was the stamp.
When I asked the waiter about it, he told me that he should have scanned the app before I paid. What’s the point of being able to pay by app if I have to see the waiter first? Duh! He also told me he has also not been told that people have paid and he’s tackled them in the car park, thinking they’ve done a runner. How embarrassing. Come on, please get a grip. Make it work or get rid. You won’t get many chances to get it wrong before I delete it. Then I won’t have any reason to choose Toby over anything else, will I?
