Description

When paired with a compatible Garmin Varia device¹, the Varia app has the tools you need to ride with confidence. Using the Varia app, you can:

• Be alerted right on your phone when approaching vehicles are within 140 meters behind your bicycle.
• View color-coded alerts based on surrounding traffic: Green means you’re all clear, yellow means a vehicle is approaching, and red means a vehicle is coming at you quickly and you should take caution.
• Receive tone and vibration alerts for approaching vehicles even when you’re not looking at your phone.

With a compatible Garmin Varia Rearview Radar Camera, you can:

• Set the camera in the best position for capturing videos and photos.
• Record videos or take photos while riding with a simple button press on your phone.
• Automatically record videos of incidents and save the video footage with the Incident Recording feature.

By adding the Varia eRTL615 Rearview Radar Tail Light, you can:
• Configure and edit light mode configurations for your tail light.

Easy to Use
Pairing your Garmin Varia device with the app is quick and easy. Once you set it up, the Varia app will automatically recognize your device.

Even if you already have a Varia device paired with a compatible Garmin device or head unit, the Varia app provides additional awareness and peace of mind while riding.

¹ Compatible devices are the Varia RVR315 Rearview Radar, Varia RTL515 Radar Tail Light, Varia RCT715 Rearview Radar Camera and Varia eRTL615 Rearview Radar Tail Light.

Awesome companion

This device is one of the best ride companions you can buy. Works well in a group, but comes into its own when you are on solo rides.
Picks up approaching vehicles way in advance of you hearing or sensing them and alerts you to their proximity to you.
It's well worth it just for that, but I can't help thinking the same as some others here, it could be even better with the addition of some basic info.
AVG speed, Direction, Mileage. For me the addition of these metrics would take this app to another level.
I'd go 4.5 stars as it's so good, but a little room for future improvements.....🤞🏻

Screen Burn in on iPhone XS Max !!

First of all, I must say I love the Varia Radar. I was skeptical at first, but I not use my bike without it now, and I recommend its use to everyone. Five stars for that. The app, however…yesterday I was on the bike all day, and had the app open all the time. After I got home, I noticed there are now two vertical lines across the screen and a rectangle at the top, burned in on my iPhone’s display (they are of course caused by the two white vertical lines (the “road”) and the rectangle at the top (the one that goes orange/red/green)). I am hoping they fade away with time, but I am not sure they will. As it is, my iphone screen is ruined. This is a serious issue and needs to be fixed. I personally do not need the white “road” on my screen at all times (you could just show the cars as dots. They move so they would not cause burn in) and the rectangle at the top could be the whole screen instead (show the full screen orange, red or green. It would also be much easier to see). I understand other people would have no issue with the current way the app works, so you could make this a preference. I hope you guys offer a solution to this problem as soon as possible. I have come to depend on the radar, but burn in in my iPhone’s screen is completely unacceptable. Another suggestion: Please make the volume of the alerts configurable. I listen to podcasts/music and sometimes the alerts are hard to hear. Thanks

Good app, would appreciate more features

This app does exactly what it says, but I feel Garmin could have done more.

It pairs super quick and easy to my new RTL515, so top marks for that. Once paired, you can use your phone mounted to the handlebars, or just stick it in you cycle top to make it easier to hear notifications and use your Garmin bike computer for the visuals.

I’m left feeling Garmin missed a trick though. They could have had it record instances when the radar picked up a car. The estimated speed etc. I know there is a third party app in the IQ store that does this, so why can’t Garmin?

Maybe even a ‘quick note’ section so you can write the car registration of someone who was agressive to you on the road.

Hopefully they’ll develop the app and add new features soon. I’m just left feeling like ‘is that it?’ with the app so far.

Finally, note that this app is for the new Garmin RTL515 and 315 devices. Devices such as the 510 don’t have Bluetooth so won’t work with this app.
