Eye-Opener

Got this app as part of a feasibility study into the viability of electric vehicles. The one thing that shocked me is the huge amount of charging point failures and the high number of problems reported, even though many charging points are new, and the high number of damaged connectors. Concluded that, apart from the ridiculous cost of an EV, the support network is woefully inadequate, badly built and unbelievably unreliable, and that EV development has an awful long way to go before it can become mainstream.

Developer Response ,

Hello Shtiffirg, Thanks for your feedback. We do try to reflect the status of all of the locations in our database as accurately as possible, but we can't always guarantee that data is reported correctly. We try and reflect this by indicating locations have 'Issues reported' rather than being in-operable, so this may go some way to explaining the seemingly high numbers of issues. Combine this with the fact that there is a wide variation in reliability between networks and it may appear that problems appear more common than they are. Our aim is to enable users to make the best decisions about their charging choices, based upon the available infrastructure. Sadly, we can't influence the cost of EVs (we would if we could) but given the recent and ongoing growth in the market, it's inevitable that they will become more affordable. We are looking to the future when everyone will have one with enthusiasm! Best regards, Mark Chitty (Product Manager)

Very poor Vs PlugShare

I, like many people do the chargers research on the iPad app. I have just discovered that the iPad app is different to the iPhone app!! I was looking for information at the Fox Valley retail park. They have 6 instavolt CCS & 6 Chademo chargers. They show on PlugShare & on the iPhone app but not on the Zap-Map iPad app! Why? Is it assumed that people will more than likely have their phone rather than the iPad when out & about? This is probably true but as I say, many of us plan from home before we make our trip. Very poor from what is generally a great service.

Time & again I return to this app from PlugShare & am always disappointed. Lots of missing locations & poor information compared to PlugShare. I’m not sure really, why so many people promote it.

Developer Response ,

Hello Mike, I am sorry to hear that you've not had a good experience. Our data team work very hard to ensure that the map data is as up to date as possible. One point it might be worth checking is that you are zoomed into the map enough, some locations may not appear immediately is the zoom level is quite 'high'. This is because we 'thin' the number of points shown on the map in order to make sure it's not too slow to use. Zooming in will reveal more points. If there are specific points you are looking for a quick search should take you to them. Best regards, Mark Chitty (Product Manager)

Great app but pricing let down

It is very good if not the best at present for EV apps and would be 5 star but the new paid for elements let it down.
I would happily pay for the extra features and glad to hear from the devs there is more on the way to add value to the subscriptions, but this seems back to front. Asking people to pay for content that doesn’t exist yet and depending on what it is, may not even be worth the cost to those that have already paid seems an odd business plan. Surely it would be better to start at lower price points and add on as content is released? Seems they could of won over a lot more people if they had just started a little lower on the prices judging by the reviews.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for the complements, certainly our aim is to be the best EV charging app in the UK and Ireland! And thank you for the feedback regarding subscriptions. I understand your point, and there are pros and cons to each approach. We have had a fantastic take up on subscriptions and hope to bring many more of our users on board over the next year. I hope we can persuade you to subscribe in the future! Best regards, Mark Chitty (Product Manager)
