How Hui Works:
RESERVE - Open the Hui app and select the location, date and time for your reservation. Then, view available vehicles near you.
DRIVE - During an active reservation, your smartphone becomes your digital key to unlock and lock the vehicle. Push to start and off you go!
RETURN - Park your vehicle in its reserved spot at the station location where you picked it up. Lock the vehicle and end your reservation. Your account will automatically be billed for the time you booked.

Where do I even begin to sing HUI’s praises? From the get go, HUI has maintained 5 stars in my book. I had been visiting my new grandson in Kapi’olani Medical Center. A couple days before his discharge (yay!) I considered renting a car to run errands and do some shopping. This is when I ran into Kimberly, the awesome car share coordinator who was manning an informational table. After hearing all the perks this service had to offer, I rented one of the vehicles for two hours. Well, ya know how things can get on O’ahu, and I kept calling support to add a few minutes, an hour, and ultimately ended up renting the vehicle at the 24 hour day rate. The support was incredible!In addition to all the perks I remember being told about, a major plus was not having to pay for parking at the hospital. I went in and out many times, and this saved me a bunch of money.*Side note: I fell in love with the car and will look into getting one for my teen drivers. :)

I have been trying to reserve a car to use for the past 2 days… I have been approved and verified by the verification team about 2 months now just didn’t need a car until this memorial weekend. You can say I was been prepared as I know the verification process takes a couple days. Well I updated the app as recommended and when I first signed in, it asked for me to upload my drivers license and verify my address again. No problem doing that. Tried to reserve a car which was available and the app tells me I need to Upload my drivers license to my profile to start. Unable to locate my profile page like it was on the old app. Called customer service (5/30) on memorial day (yes I know maybe not open) but someone answered and unfortunately could only forward my problem to another team who would need to handle my problem. No timeline on when someone would get back to me… Fast forward to this morning, still unable to reserve a vehicle with the same problem going on. Called customer support and again was told they would forward my concern to the verification team. Advised that I was already verified and just needed a car for a couple hours today…Nothing I can do but wait for a call back or my problem resolved… Not off to a good start with Hui, and I really wanted this to work.

I would strongly advise to rent a car elsewhere. The app went down toward the last day of my trip and could not activate my reservation so we couldn’t get into our car nor drive it. It tools about 4 hours before customer service got back to me and sent a technician out to manually open the car so that we can get our stuff from the car. Luckily I was parked in the hotel, like what if I was driving far away and just stopped for gas. I would be stuck there. Absolutely unacceptable… they should have a car fob in your rental for people who are renting for several days so that we can still have access to the car. They offered to reimburse Uber/Lyft rides and refund the one day left that I had. The refund was a no brained but they only offered 1 day. Nothing additional was offered for this extreme inconvenience that literally ruined the end of my vacation. Had plans to go explore the north/east Oahu but ended up only going to 1 location due to the lack of car. Waiting for the Uber took forever especially trying to catch one going back to Waikiki. We were coming back from the beach and the Uber literally drove past us and canceled the ride because he probably thought we were wet or sandy. Took us an hour to get a ride back. I informed customer service about the terrible experience we had and asked if we could get an additional day refunded but got ignored. Not only that but I got charged an extra $265 for a late fee because I didn’t end the reservation on time and that was because the app was down! I got it refunded but still waiting for it to reflect on my credit card bill. The app was finally back up after almost 2 days. I would NOT recommend risking your vacation with this app unless they come up with a back up plan where u can manually access the car in case the app goes down again….

Overall I would use this service again…Love it: Super convenient, we reserved our cars for 3 days it was super easy, account approval was also really quick. Didnt need to pay for parking when I couldn’t find overnight street parking, I just drove back to where I picked up the car and leave it there then come back to get it later. No need to pay for gashowever during our rental we had some issues…Meh: Customer service - for a service where users could rent the cars for days on end + overnight, it was a bit frustrating that we are told the hours we could take to someone is after 8AM-5PM. Because we reserved our car for 6:15AM however we couldn’t unlock the car. We noticed the license number on the app and the car is different so we called customer service. We stayed on the line with the automated message and was on hold for roughly 35-40 minutes and was told that another operator will call me back, I was skeptical since it took me so long just to get a person on the line. But surprisingly they called me back 5 minutes later. They updated my reservation to match the license of the car and explained to me that the car I originally booked is currently not in service. By 7:15 I was able to be on my way. Was frustrated but just glad they got back to me. Unlocking the car, we had a bit of trouble (only once) trying to get the car to lock/unlock we were at an area with little service and couldn’t get it to lock. Not sure if it was just my phone or we need to be online. But I turned airplane mode on and off, force quit the app & tried again and it works.
