This is not a quiz app (although it has quizzes!); it’s all about learning and remembering the myriad of information around wine. Decanter Know Your Wine is a microlearning app. It uses s p a c i n g to deliver learning in highly efficient short lessons. It asks you questions and uses Artificial Intelligence to learn from your answers so that you learn the content you're struggling with and don't keep repeating the stuff you know. Use the app little and often and progress through a series of rankings en route to becoming a Know Your Wine Grand Master. Complete the program and your knowledge of wine will become exceptional. Great app

I enjoyed using this while studying for the CMS Certified exam. I hope they will add Spain, Germany, Portugal, and New Zealand in the future. My only quibble is that once you’ve answered ~75% of the questions the quiz takes a long time to queue up 5 questions since there aren’t as many left. (Also: Made it to the end, and when only one question is left, it won't let you say "correct" - it marks it wrong so you can't finish and get to 100% - not cool!)

Out of Order Questions Lead to Frustration

The concepts presented by the app have good intensions and seem to structure a natural learning of wine while avoiding short term memory learning faults. Unfortunately the early questions being wildly out of order lead to consistent frustration on aspects way too difficult for the section. During the first few modules, why are questions on specific vineyards or labels included? Material on wine label basics or what specific label information means has not even been introduced yet. Asking about individual champagne label details that early on provides no opportunity for learning and incentivizes one time memorization in order to progress only to be forgotten soon afterwards. While the majority of questions are appropriate, encountering unrelated random facts adds artificial difficulty and confusion.

Hi Pinball Beast,It was important for us that we offered a flavour of all content in the free modules. It is possible to mute modules and avoid encountering these early questions, whilst focusing on the topics you are interested in. Apologies if this was not clear.

I like the app. It's definitely challenging for a wine neophyte like myself. Recommend adopting a flashcard system based on neuroscience like the Forever Fluent language learning app (Too many nuances to go over here, but it's about a lot more than using flashcards). Other two improvements I'd recommend are the inclusion of maps and pronunciation (sound files) for those of us without the requisite language background. Bottom line is I do recommend the app and enjoy using it on a daily basis.

Related to question depth, are the “easy” questions included in the “hard” or is it two different sets of questions? I want my depth set to hard, but I don’t want to miss out on “easy” questions that I might not actually know the answers to. It looks like the total number of questions went from 1479 to 1477 despite modules being added for Austria. Why is the number of questions going down?Also, what is the “accelerated end phase”? I hoped this would mean I’d get more/different questions but that doesn’t seem to be the case?

Hi Carrie,That is so great to hear, and 96% is very impressive! Based on your responses to date the app's AI will only ask you questions at the point it feels you may have forgotten the knowledge. This is why questions are being pushed so far into the distance, so when a question is next asked it may take you a bit of effort to recall the knowledge - this is important as it strengthens the neural pathways and means you are more likely to embed the knowledge into your long-term memory. If you keep using the app you will get to a 100%, but remember new modules are added regularly, and of course you should keep using the app to maintain the knowledge. I hope this helps.FYE Team
