The Stars and Stripes has been a fixture in my life as far back as I can remember, 65+ years. I was aware of it at a young age when my dad would bring home copies when we were stationed with him overseas. During my career in the US Air Force the Stars and Stripes was always available at military installations around the world no matter how remote the location, and some of them were very remote.Even with the availability of thousands of on-line news sources, the Stars and Stripes is the most enduring and balanced source of US news and always feels like part of home. It will be as sad day if the Stars and Stripes were canceled. I am sure the DoD Comptroller can find $15.5 million in the $700 billion+ DoD budget to fund the Stars and Stripes. The DOD typically allow billions of prior year funding to expire because it has not been spent in a timely manner. With better funds management finding $15.5 million in the vast DoD budget is not a difficult effort.

It does not matter what branch you served in, what your rank was or when you served; the Stars & Stripes has always been something that we could count on to connect us to home. This has been true since it’s inception ever since World War 2. What a magnificent and marvelous “fact based” and “truth telling “ journalistic achievement. The Stars and Stripes is an irreplaceable news source in both peace and war. Pray that it never ever gets politicized. It would be a travesty if it did.
