Fix the miscommunication between your gut and brain. Designed for people living with IBS, functional dyspepsia (FD), GERD, bloating symptoms, and other gut–brain disorders — as well as those seeking additional support alongside IBD care — Nerva is a personalized gut–brain therapy program that supports symptom management through daily sessions, practical tools, and structured guidance.
Target the root cause
Many people spend years cutting out foods in an effort to calm their gut - a difficult path that can miss what’s really driving symptoms. In disorders of gut–brain interaction (DGBIs), the root cause is gut–brain hypersensitivity.
After a trigger like illness, antibiotics, or prolonged stress, the nerves in the gut can become over-reactive. Even once the gut tissue heals, the nervous system may keep the alarm turned up. Normal digestion, gas, or movement are then misread as danger - leading to pain, bloating, reflux, urgency, constipation, or diarrhea.
Diets and medications can reduce symptoms temporarily, but they don’t retrain this signaling system. That’s why symptoms often return or shift over time.
Lasting relief means calming the nervous system and restoring healthy gut–brain communication - where the symptoms actually start.
How Nerva helps
Nerva is a structured gut–brain therapy program designed to physically retrain the gut–brain axis. Nerva works on the nervous system to:
- Reduce gut nerve hypersensitivity
- Calm threat signaling between the gut and brain
- Normalize digestive sensation and motility over time
Tailored to you
No two guts are the same. Nerva adapts your program to your symptoms, triggers, and progress - using AI to adjust the coaching and guidance as you go. The sessions, the tools you receive, and the coaching you follow are all shaped around your experience.
Evidence-based
Unlike most apps, Nerva is built on clinical research. In a randomized controlled trial at Monash University, Nerva helped 81% of people significantly manage their gastrointestinal symptoms. Since then, more than 300,000 people have used Nerva, and over 11,000 healthcare providers recommend it.
Features of Nerva
- Daily 15-minute sessions designed to retrain gut-brain miscommunication
- Flare-up tools for pain, bloating, constipation, reflux and diarrhea
- Long-term maintenance plan to keep symptoms under control after the program
- AI personalization to tailor the program to your triggers and progress
Who is the team behind Nerva?
Nerva was built by Dr. Simone Peters, GI psychophysiologist, together with clinicians, dietitians, and researchers. Many of us live with gut conditions ourselves. We built Nerva to target the root cause - the miscommunication between the gut and brain.

The recordings definitely calm me. I really struggle with consistency and routines, so I did not reliably follow the course. But I do use the recordings to help me relax and even to help me go to sleep. They are very effective. The recordings are always about 15 minutes. They are composed of three parts, A+B+C, and they rotate A and B, but C is aleays the same. Part A is the strategy they use to help calm down your body (either a muscle tense and release, a progressive full body relaxation, or a "name 3 things you see, hear, feel"). Part B is the visualization phase where you are prompted to imagine yourself in a park, in a bookstore, in a planty nursery, or several other possibilities. Part C is always the same script, full of encouraging messages about how your digestion will be better in the future. All parts are recorded with the same woman's voice. I find her voice to be extremely soothing, more so than even the Sleep stories on the Calm app, which I also paid for. I wish I could comment on Nerva's effects on my IBS symptoms, but as I said, I unfortunately have not be consistent enough to know what effect it's had. Nerva also includes regularly scheduled readings to provide you with information about your gut's relationship with your brain and overall health. I've read a few, but I wish there was an option to listen to the readings. I get visual migraines so I am averse to spending large quantities of time reading my phone screen. Anyways, great app! Thank you.
Best I’ve felt in 40 years.

My IBS started when I went off to college in 1973. That’s such a long time to be dealing with chronic digestive issues. Pain from gas, bloating, squeezing feeling in my intestines from hyper motility, intermittent diarrhea and constipation, endless testing and you know the rest. No food plans have helped and I’ve tried most of them. Many of course made my symptoms worse. Even Low Fodmap diet didn’t help at all. Staying away from white foods was the most helpful, but no matter what, I still missed out on a lot due to symptoms.Turns out the Dr at the student health center was on the right track all those years ago when she had me doing progressive relaxation. It didn’t work for me then, but it did this time. I’ve done quite a bit of meditation through apps in the last few years to calm my anxiety and ADD, yes I’m that person. Somewhere I saw the info on the Verve App and decided that it was worth my time and money to calm down my nervous system.I enjoyed all of the daily sessions and have learned so much about how to calm my system down and activate the vagus system. I am a scientist, so was encouraged by the science and common sense behind each week. Every morning I would start the day with the reading and the meditation, or sometimes at night. By week four everything started to settle down, and today as I finish my 6 weeks , I am grateful for all the lessons learned and look forward to being able to eat without so much fear on a long awaited trip to Italy. Thanks so much. Susan

When I started Nerva, my IBS was out of control. I could not leave my house. I had to change my dates for a vacation I planned twice. I felt desperate knowing that I couldn’t live that way. At the time I was not working, and if I had continued on the way I was headed I was not going to be able to work. My life was literally on hold. I was overwhelmed. Not knowing what to do, I started “researching” online about IBS solutions and found Nerva. Knowing that the GI tract is the first place the body manifests stress in most people, I recognized that Nerva could provide a helpful, alternative way to manage IBS. I subscribed immediately, and that day began doing the hypnotherapy sessions. Without changing anything else I was doing, I had results within 36 hours. I have learned techniques and now have skills that I use when I begin to feel like I am starting to have IBS symptoms. As soon as I sense something is amiss, I immediately use the techniques that I have learned through Nerva with unbelievable results. In addition to the hypnotherapy sessions, I have enjoyed the reading provided that has given me more insight into IBS, and some of the things that may instigate IBS flare ups. Prior to starting Nerva, I had already changed my diet. However, I can honestly say with no exaggeration that participating in the Nerva program is the factor that has completely changed my life! Thank you Nerva!!
Feeling calmer!

I’m into the second week of this program and I am noticeably calmer, with less GI problems. I’ve been on the low FODMAP diet for almost 6 years. It has helped me immensely, by reducing my IBS symptoms of bloating, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Because of the success I have had with the low FODMAP diet, I totally trust Monash University, where the diet was developed. Knowing that Nerva was developed by the same people, I was very interested in what else they have come up with. This program is educating me about the fact that there is a level of healing possible beyond where I have gotten to with the diet. I am understanding that the essential issue is a hypersensitivity of my brain - gut nervous system, and that can be calmed with hypnotherapy and diaphragmatic deep breathing. The hypnotherapy sessions are 15 minutes long, and there is a new one every day. There are short things to read every day, to increase my understanding of what is possible. There is excellent email support. The 7 day free trial allowed me to check it out adequately before paying. I have a clear feeling now that I will be a new person by the end of the 6 week program. I am so grateful that this came to me on my Instagram feed! I am now four months out from when I began the program. I am finding that I still need to do the hypnotherapy sessions at least a few times a week in order to maintain a pain free gut. After all, I have had IBS symptoms for about 70 years, so I understand that a little ongoing support in relaxation is needed. Again, I am grateful that this program is available and effective.
Performance improvements and minor bug fixes.
