Description
CARRY A LIBRARY IN YOUR POCKET
Access tens of thousands of books—from current best sellers to much-loved classics, popular magazines, and music instruction and scores—in audio and electronic braille, with new selections added daily.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
BARD Mobile is a service of NLS. NLS provides free audio and braille reading materials to residents of the US and American citizens living abroad who cannot read regular print. If you are blind or have temporary or permanent low vision or a physical or reading disability that prevents you from holding or reading the printed page, you may be eligible for this program. For more information, visit https://www.loc.gov/nls/about/eligibility-for-nls-services.
HOW DO I GET STARTED?
This app allows access for eligible users who have enrolled in the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS) at the Library of Congress. To enroll, call 1-888-NLS-READ (1-888-657-7323) and follow the prompts to find your state. Or to learn more at https://www.loc.gov/thatallmayread.
If you are already an NLS patron, contact your cooperating NLS library to request a BARD account. You can find your library by visiting https://www.loc.gov/nls/find-a-local-library/.

What’s New
Version 2.0.0
Version 2.0 includes a number of new features, including in-app search capabilities:
-Search inputs are more intuitive. Author search supports First Name, Last Name format; Last Name, First Name; and Last Name only. Quotation marks are no longer required. For example, input “Mary Clark” (without quotations) to find all the Mary Higgins Clark titles.
-Keyword search supports searching all indexed metadata and can help users looking for multiple criteria. For example, to find a Terri Pratchett book narrated by Nick DePinto, a user can simply input “dePinto Terri“ (without quotations).
-After a user inputs a search, they can amend the search type, the inputted term itself, or the format (audio or braille), and sort results alphabetically by author, title, or latest publication date.
-In-app search now includes NLS Music collection holdings, allowing users to access the variety of musical appreciation and biography books, scores, and music instructional titles.
-Users can switch between audio and braille searches. For example, input “learn guitar” (without quotation marks) with the search defaults to find audio instructional titles, then select the braille format and the search button again to find braille titles. Version 2.0 also includes enhancements to searching and sorting Bookshelf and Get Books listings.
Bug fixes include:
-Rewind controls skipping further than intended
-Sideloading books
-Downloading and reading non-ASCII foreign language book titles
Ratings and Reviews
Great app
I love this app. I don’t even listen to TV anymore. I think the only problem is in the past couple of months, there’s hardly been any magazines or books put on the app. There’s also no way to filter out any books that have found language in them. Also series of books, in order, you have to figure out which one goes first, that takes a very long time especially if there’s 19 books in the theory. I wish you could fix that part.
Problem with the mobile app on phone
Hi, this is Jeanne. I’m trying to figure out why I’m having a hard time. Logging onto bard with my iPhone 14 Pro. I’ve never had this problem before. It’s telling me to sign up like I’m a new user. I am not a new user! Has anybody else had this problem? Please let me know why I can’t sign on to the bard app with my cell phone. That’s why I gave this a little reading. Because it’s not working correctly!
Jeanne
PS, I have tried both emails. And they both turned red! I’ve tried my iCloud one, and my Gmail one. I think I switched back to the Gmail. And it’s not working at all. Not even my password. So again this is the reason why I gave this a little reading. Until this is fixed, I’m not changing the rating at all!
I wonder why this works on my victor reader streams? But not on my iPhone. Please help. Sorry for the long response.
This app is amazing but
This app is literally my lifeline, and I don’t know what I would do without it. But, since this new update. My books haven’t been wanting to play. And sometimes when they do you want to play, it sounds like it’s all static he. I’m usually just able to press the sleep timer, to where I want it to go and it will work. But that doesn’t work anymore and I have to keep pressing play and pause for several minutes until it starts playing again.
