Over the years I’ve tried several personal finance softwares and either they don’t have the basic features such as auto importing transactions or it’s the other extreme of a bunch of features I won’t use but have to pay for anyways. CountAbout is perfect for me. I wanted a simple ‘checkbook’ ledger for all my accounts including credit cards. This is it. Also easily tracks my bills and budget and has option to auto log these in my choice of advance. Makes it easy to balance my accounts and know my balances today and in the future. Definitely recommend! The only bug I’ve noticed is that when I manually add a transaction and then it downloads transactions from bank, it doesn’t always match the two up so it may try to duplicate some so I just keep an eye on that.

Having been a long-time Quicken and Banktivity user, I had switched over to Mint for over a year and got tired of the ads and breaking the connection with Amex with two-factor authentication. My wife and I wanted something that let us confirm our transactions as they get downloaded, and this app does it. I like that I can treat two of my credit cards that are really for furniture purchases like loans, and I like that the investments (and other accounts) can be setup to show only the latest balance so that the other transactions in the background don’t distract from the daily living expenses. I have accounts with Northwestern Mutual, and their service looks at all accounts and perform growth analysis in the background for me while I use CountAbout for my regular and discretionary expenses and budgeting.

I have been a subscriber of Quicken for 20+ years. Each year I kept hoping they would refresh their interface and bring the App into the 21st century. Over the last 3 years, I became more and more frustrated in the inability to accurately enter and match my personal expenses and budget. I admit that I keep a very detailed account of everything. A little over a month ago, I had enough and decided to try CountAbout. While I had the usual learning problems, with their excellent support, I was able to not only figure it but also able to get totals of all categories to match my personal records. I found CountAbout a year ago when looking for an alternative to Quicken. I had been using that for well over ten years, and I wanted to be sure I could transfer all of my information into whichever new platform I chose. After comparing CountAbout and a few other options and reading many reviews, I settled on this app. It has been everything I had hoped it would be. The transfer of my old information was seamless, and I like having access through both my phone and my computer. I use it strictly for my personal checking account tracking at this point, but I might have need of all the other bells and whistles down the line, so I appreciate that they’re available.
