Looking for a replacement for Quicken

Over the past few years, I have been looking for a replacement for Quicken. The price keeps going up and the functionality doesn’t always improve.
I have read up on CountAbout for the last several months and am in the middle of the evaluation period. I definitely like the way it imported my Quicken file. Other software promised the same, but limited the size of the file. Not CountAbout.
The only thing I have found currently, is that the sub budget categories don’t roll up to the top category. This isn’t a showstopper, but to me, a like to have. Support has been excellent and responsive. This is more than I can say about Quicken.
I am giving 4 stars as I have not committed to purchasing yet and still evaluating. However, this is definitely a very good personal software package.

Yes, it syncs to Windows!

I manage my finances on a Windows laptop, and I want to access that data on an iPhone. Finding apps that sync between Windows and iOS is difficult, and for money management apps, almost impossible. CountAbout is the only iOS app / Windows program I’ve found that does it well. Data is stored in the cloud, so a transaction entered on one device syncs instantly to the other. I’ve tried the premium features such as transaction downloads from my bank, and they work well. I’m particularly impressed with the reporting functionality. I am very happy with CountAbout, despite its interface which is a bit “yesterday.” Still, the controls are intuitive and if you’ve used Microsoft Money or GnuCash or similar programs, you’ll have zero learning curve. I’d give CountAbout 4 stars, but because it’s the only app available on the App Store that fills my need to sync with Windows, it’s worth 5 stars.

Simple yet feature-rich

Having been a long-time Quicken and Banktivity user, I had switched over to Mint for over a year and got tired of the ads and breaking the connection with Amex with two-factor authentication. My wife and I wanted something that let us confirm our transactions as they get downloaded, and this app does it. I like that I can treat two of my credit cards that are really for furniture purchases like loans, and I like that the investments (and other accounts) can be setup to show only the latest balance so that the other transactions in the background don’t distract from the daily living expenses. I have accounts with Northwestern Mutual, and their service looks at all accounts and perform growth analysis in the background for me while I use CountAbout for my regular and discretionary expenses and budgeting.
