Mint Alternative
Made the switch from Mint to CountAbout due to its ability to import Mint exports. So far I’m pretty happy. I like the simplicity of this application and the ability to manually import financial institution transaction exports if needed…something Mint does not let you do should you have an institution that doesn’t support (or breaks) an automatic download interface. I think the UI could use a bit of an update and some of the functions could be organized a bit better to be more intuitive; however, overall I do like the flexibility this tool offers once you get familiar with it.
Yes, it syncs to Windows!
I manage my finances on a Windows laptop, and I want to access that data on an iPhone. Finding apps that sync between Windows and iOS is difficult, and for money management apps, almost impossible. CountAbout is the only iOS app / Windows program I’ve found that does it well. Data is stored in the cloud, so a transaction entered on one device syncs instantly to the other. I’ve tried the premium features such as transaction downloads from my bank, and they work well. I’m particularly impressed with the reporting functionality. I am very happy with CountAbout, despite its interface which is a bit “yesterday.” Still, the controls are intuitive and if you’ve used Microsoft Money or GnuCash or similar programs, you’ll have zero learning curve. I’d give CountAbout 4 stars, but because it’s the only app available on the App Store that fills my need to sync with Windows, it’s worth 5 stars.
Finally a simple digital account ledger
Over the years I’ve tried several personal finance softwares and either they don’t have the basic features such as auto importing transactions or it’s the other extreme of a bunch of features I won’t use but have to pay for anyways. CountAbout is perfect for me. I wanted a simple ‘checkbook’ ledger for all my accounts including credit cards. This is it. Also easily tracks my bills and budget and has option to auto log these in my choice of advance. Makes it easy to balance my accounts and know my balances today and in the future. Definitely recommend! The only bug I’ve noticed is that when I manually add a transaction and then it downloads transactions from bank, it doesn’t always match the two up so it may try to duplicate some so I just keep an eye on that.
