Free version

This is a decent app for the free version if you live near where you hunt and check it the day of the hunt. It seems that the deer movement predictions are oriented more for wooded areas. I hunt open fields near woods in western nc and it seems like I see more deer in the fields when the DeerCast says “okay”, or “poor”. However, when it says “good”, or “great” theirs lots of deer movement in the more heavily wooded areas, and I see lots of deer driving the road. When this happens theirs a lot less activity in my open fields and corn piles. Hope this helps if you’re on the fence about downloading the app. If you wish to use this to plan hunts a couple days out you’ll have to get the paid version. It may not be worth it depending on your financial priorities. I definitely wouldn’t base my decision to go hunting that day on the deer movement prediction. You never know what you’ll see so get out there!

Glitchy, but highly recommended

I just got this app. I installed it, set my location and then tried to watch some videos. For example, I tried watching the video about Mark’s rut hunting. First the video had no sound. I saw on these reviews that I have to have my ringer on. (Which is a major issue for me when hunting) So in the process of trying to watch a video and finding out how to get sound, the app crashed twice. It seems like every time I exit out of a video, the app crashes.

The app is definitely something that I would probably pay for if it worked correctly. There just seems to be a lot of glitches in it. Now, I understand that in the process of developing and releasing apps there is a matter of testing and updating it to remove the glitches. Getting the bugs worked out so to say. That is why I am giving it 5 stars. I see it all the time, a company releases an app, a bunch of people get the app and try it out. They realize that it does not work perfectly (although it is free and they lost nothing except a little time) and they proceed to give it terrible reviews. Then the company updates and fixes all of the issues in the app and the app gets running very smooth. Those negative reviewers never update their review so it looks like the app has a bunch of negative reviews. So the company updates and improves the app and the negative people never update their reviews. If you ask me, sounds like the negative reviewers are the ones who should be defending their review.

Great weather info. Not even close on deer phases in my area.

The weather information is great and normally as accurate or more than the weather channel app. Deer movement has a decent correlation to deer movement, but the deer phases for my area are off in a major way. I live in southeast alabama, in what might be the most screwed up rut timings inside of a 100 mile diameter circle in the country, so can’t say I blame the company for not sinking money into getting this areas rut right. Look at the rut studies done by the state of AL if you don’t know what I mean. Small area and very very small percentage of the market, but it is the main reason I cancelled my elite subscription. To be honsest though, I’ll probably be back after I get my panties out of a wad because deer cast track is probably almost worth the subscription fee by itself.
