“I hate it...BUT I LOVE IT. The first time I played, I felt like I was learning to walk. It was awkward and I made a lot of mistakes. But then it slowly started to make more sense and suddenly I saw the utility in the app. It's hard but hard is good. Train your brain. Get this app..."

** WHAT IS DUAL N-BACK **
Dual N-Back exercise is a scientifically proven way of improving your fluid intelligence. Fluid intelligence refers to the ability to reason and to solve new problems independently of previously acquired knowledge. More information about the science from the support page.
** FEATURES **
- Simple but challenging gameplay
- Graphical statistics with daily progress and trend line
- Helpful gameplay animations and tips explaining all you need to know about dual N-back
The idea is to remember sequentially spoken letters and positions of a square. The sequence length is increased or lowered for the next round depending how well you are doing.
You will advance to your current top performance level quite fast and it takes some persistence to get to the next level. On the other hand, the length of the sequence (i.e. difficult level) for each round is deliberately changed quite easily so that there is minimal change to develop automatic processes and task-specific strategies which are actually not increasing your fluid intelligence in the long run.

Ratings and Reviews
Love concept but has constant accuracy errors
I love to utilize this app in my cognitive therapy pts; however I find that the accuracy provided in the app is always incorrect.
If I knew that this app would provide more accuracy for my pts I would utilize it more for them to complete home practice.
So basically I cannot recommend this app with its current inaccuracies.

My Fav N-Back Game
I’ve played almost every day for the last 43 days, usually at least 20 times. There is a Mathematical n-back game that helped me get comfortable in moving from the third level to the fourth. Together they rock! If I had to pick one, this would still be it. Be patient. I get to level 5 every day, but I still haven’t reached 6. Level 3 is very comfortable and fun now. I do chess puzzles and a crossword every day also, but this is the most important one for me. Note: If you exercise, HIIT cardio every day keeps me improving on this faster and makes this less uncomfortable to do. The other n-back game I mentioned is speed based, but it waits for you to respond; you can regularly reach new speed records and compare yourself with everyone who has ever played. That part is really motivating.
I’d give it 5 stars if…
…they would add a manual N level setting feature.
I know they believe that people learn better with automatic N levels and that it discourages people from using memory tricks.
The problem with that assumption is they aren’t taking into account neurodiversity.
Brains come in a variety of models. And age ranges. Not everyone learns best with their sink-or-swim style of learning.
For me, the automatic N levels make this app a truly miserable exercise in constantly failing down. I learn best slowly with repetition. Before I can get any traction on a level I’m bumped up to the next level where I flounder and fail down. I never get any traction on that next level. It’s like being rewarded for achievement with failure.
I’ve tried this game on and off for years and I’ve never improved.
Worse, it’s made me feel so discouraged that I had to delete the app because just seeing on my screen was making me feel like I was back in grade school, an undiagnosed dyslexic, being told by the teacher that I just wasn’t trying. Hard pass! I now know how to try smarter.
I found another similar app that does let you manually set the N levels. What a difference. I actually look forward to using it. It doesn’t have as good a UI. This app has the best, I’ll give them that.
But those automatic N levels are the deal breaker.
Hey Devs, trust your users to know their best learning styles.
