Very poorly crafted app. For starters, recently downloaded it and while registering it, on those unavoidable steps like selecting a security question, the app simply doesn’t show the options, as if it had frozen or something, and there’s nothing in this world that can make it show you the options so you can select one and move forward. And don’t blame me, I’m having trouble with it using an Iphone 7. After a lot of aggrivation I decided to speak to someone in the chat who maybe could help, just to realise that the chat works through an overlay (very impractical for phone apps!) also very poorly built making it a REAL NIGHTMARE to control, just like when you try to access a desktop version of most websites using a phone with all of glitches and challenges. Finally, after many attemps I was able to chat with someone, with little to no interest in assisting and a scathing inaptitude in the English language.
Long story short, I’m gonna have to register for online banking using a desktop computer and hope I can access it from my phone later on using the app. I sincerely hope it doesn’t simply get stuck again when I try do a transaction with it. It’s pretty ridiculous, better off with other companies that understand the importance to have stable, reliable softwares with user-friendly interfaces. I honestly am considering closing out that account and moving on to another card!

Unbelievably Bad

HSBC advertises their Global Transfer feature as the thing that separates them from the competition. It took me three frustrating months to get my US and French HSBC accounts set up. This Friday I initiated a Global Transfer via this app to get money into my French account to pay my rent. It appeared to work and I got a receipt in the app. On Saturday I contacted HSBC because there was no evidence of the pending transfer. They told me that the feature is in the App but it doesn’t actually work. You can only make Global Transfers via the web site. So.... why do you have features in your app that don’t work? That’s worse than not having the feature at all. It’s misleading. Reading the reviews here I just noticed a review in February that says the same thing. HSBC has known about this problem for at least six months and the feature is still there not working and misleading people?!?! I’m closing my US account. I’ll just use TransferWise to move money from my US Chase account to my French HSBC account. HSBC seems to mark up the exchange rate anyway, so using TransferWise costs about the same.

One star is one too many

The app doesn’t work. We enter all the security info and when we click the log on button, it flashes and then nothing happens. I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling. We’re tech savvy enough (one of us works in tech.) We should have checked the app ratings before opening this account. This is by far the worst banking app. The interest you earn is no where near worth the time and effort you have to put in to get it to work, if you even get that far. You have to get past several security questions and verification steps, which would make me feel safe, but the app not working and its clunkiness leave me with little faith in the actual level of security. It feels like a lot of fluff. The website is also too much trouble. We were not able to add a spouse to the account via the website like all of our other banks. Looking into other options. I’ve never left a review in the app store, but this was so bad I felt it was necessary to let HSBC know before we close our newly opened savings account
