Why the low rates

Metro doesn’t care; you’re on your own

I’ve reported incidents using this app twice, once when a man cornered me on a train and grabbed my inner thigh, and once on a bus when a man was loudly describing violently raping and mutilating a woman and the bus driver wouldn’t do anything about it. I’m both cases, reporting using this app was useless. They basically said “sorry you had an unpleasant experience” and asked if I wanted to file a police report. The first time, when I was groped, I did file a report and it was a complete waste of time. The police don’t care, Metro doesn’t care, and if you’re unlucky enough to be a woman who rides public transportation, you’re on your own. Enjoy all the verbal abuse, touching, and men showing you their dicks unsolicited, because this app won’t help you.

Your safety is not actually their concern

Frequent riders of the metro know that the trains have become motels for vagrants to ride as they please. There is literally no one checking for fare validation anymore, so the trains (especially at night) are like the Wild West.

It doesn’t matter what time of day it is, there will be some individual making people uncomfortable, and at times, crossing the ultimate boundary of touching someone without their consent.

This app only exists to create the illusion that metro cares about the safety of its riders. Yet, when someone makes a serous report, they just encourage one to make a police report with the most useless people of all, the police.

In my experience, if you are a female, a jaded and police officer will call and apathetically tell you there’s nothing they can do for you and make you regret even wasting your time reporting it.

Metro, YOU NEED TO DO BETTER. People pay you money to have the peace of mind of being able to safely arrive at their destination.

Nowadays, it sadly feels like the ultimate privilege to arrive home safely and be able to live another day hoping the next day will be the same.
