Find out more about the albums, artists and songs you love.

Have you ever wondered who is behind the music you're listening to right now? Who are the writers, producers, and everyone who has credits for it? Or also which samples have been used in this song, and which songs have used it as a sample? And what is the story behind it, interesting tidbits and facts?

MusicSmart is the answer to all those questions! It integrates with your music library in the Music* app, so you can get in-depth information about the songs that you listen to. Powered by knowledge from many different sources, MusicSmart can aggregate** and share the following details about an album:

- The album cover in high-resolution (3000x3000)
- The release date and the list of genres
- If it is mastered for iTunes or not
- The record label and copyright info
- And editorial notes from the Apple Music team

And for each song, you'll be able to get information such as:

- Notes with the meaning, trivia and interesting facts
- The list of credits containing who was responsible for each aspect of the track, such as:
- Writers
- Engineers
- Producers
- Vocals
- Video directors
- And more
- Which songs it uses as a sample
- Which songs have used this song as a sample
- Interpolations
- Remixes
- Music videos
- Live performances
- And more

And for each artist:

- Stage and legal name
- Hometown
- Birthdate
- And age

You can also use the Action Extension integrated with the Music app to get these details without having to leave the app***.

* MusicSmart only works with your Music app's music library. Regardless of whether it's an Apple Music or local library. As long as your music library is accessible via the Music app, you can use it with, no Apple Music subscription required.

** The amount of information available for each album and song depends on the data sources used by MusicSmart. Some users have noticed that MusicSmart does not work very well with certain musical genres like Jazz or Classical. If your library consists mostly of those genres, then you may not want to buy it.

*** Due to a limitation in the sharing feature of the Music app, the Action Extension only works with albums and songs from Apple Music. But you can use the main app to get the same details about your local, non-Apple Music albums as well.

Perfection!

This app is exactly what I’ve been looking for over the years. It works perfectly; as if it were an intricate part of the Apple Music app itself, and not a third-party add-on.
If you love music, you will want this app. A one time charge of $1.99 is a great investment for much enjoyment.
IMPORTANT: once you download the app, follow the instructions that appear immediately after you open the app for the first time. Go to the Apple Music app and set up MusicSmart as a favorite (per the instructions). That way, you can simply tap on the ellipsis in Apple Music for a song you like and then tab on MusicSmart to see a ton of detail on the artist, the album, and best of all, the individual song!
Anyone giving this app a poor rating probably did not follow the instructions properly.

Thank you so much for your review! The app works the best when used within the Apple Music app, so following the instructions is a good tip!

Really good

This app is amazing!!! I love looking at the album information and the record label the album was released on. The only thing is that the release date on the album is one day off. For example, if the album was released on june 17th 2004, on the app, for some reason it says the release date is june 16th 2004. I wonder is there a way this could be rectified? On all of the albums in the Apple Music library it does the exact same thing. Other than that, I really enjoy using this app!!!

Thanks so much for your review! I'll see whats going on with the release date, and fix it in future versions!

A delightful resource!

Think less of MusicSmart as a standalone application, and more of an extension to Apple Music. If you start with the MusicSmart app, you’ll find the experience frustrating, as the UI and UX is pretty barebones. If you use the MusicSmart extension as you navigate through Apple Music, you’ll appreciate that you have that additional context at your fingertips. It’s a great first start, and well worth the $2, in my opinion. The information is much more robust with more recent music than older, but you can’t blame Marcos for that given he’s just pulling from 3rd party sources.

Thank you so much for this review! Yes, the app was built with the action extension in mind, so it works better this way. But I'm working on some improvements to make the experience of using the main app more enjoyable!
