App is useful and anyone who has a smartphone should get it. That being said, there are 2 big issues that I find utterly ridiculous that haven’t been fixed yet:1) sign in. Why bother signing in on the home menu if you have to sign in again when you use any of the menu features? I should be able to sign in once and then when I want to access, say, YMessage, I can just tap YMessage and it sends me straight to my inbox instead of making me sign in EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. That I try to access it. Assuming you have a secure password, this gets old fast having to enter your password every time you want to use any of the features.2) many features use the desktop version of the webpage instead of the mobile version. I don’t know if there even is on many of those pages, but I shouldn’t have to zoom in 4x to sign in, which is one of the pages that you see in desktop version. If you fix these issues, 5 stars easy. Until then, the app is very annoying to use and I might as well use a computer for all the convenience it is.UPDATEThank you very much for your honest and actually helpful response. A lot of developers seem to just copy and paste the same “we’re sorry but we won’t actually help you” response to everything but BYU read my comments, explained why the issues a) are recognized but unfortunately can’t be fixed for perfectly reasonable reasons, b) are only limited to a few sections of the app anyway (I have used tons more of the app than when I originally wrote this review and have seen that it is true). For these reasons I will be changing my rating from 2 stars to 4.UPDATE 2: please add in functionality in the Learning Suite widget for LS messages. In order to access these on my phone I have to actually visit the webpage in a browser because it doesn’t look like you can in this app. At this point I’ve just stopped using the LS widget in favor of the webpage. Please fix this.
Thanks for the feedback. We wish we could have Y Message natively built in the app too. Currently, there are a few features in the app (designated with an arrow in the top right corner of the icon) that aren’t native features, but just links to a Safari web page. Because these links open in a web browser, they require the same log in process as it would anytime you use a web page in your Safari app, which means - sadly - logging in every time AND zooming into and out of the page, just as you would on Safari. We’ve wanted to remove these links entirely, but usage still shows that users are using them often, so we’re leaving them in the app until the usage dies down, or until the specific teams (Y-Message, Campus Shuttles, My Booklist, etc) give us access to their data so that we can build a native feature in the app. However, please understand that there are 30+ native features in the app that do not have either of the issues mentioned in your review. These are the features that we have designed and built, and hope that you enjoy using them.RESPONSE TO UPDATE 2Thanks again for the further feedback! We’ve been working with Learning Suite for the last couple years, trying to get access to more of their data. Currently, we are displaying all of the information that they have given us access to, which - sadly - excludes the LS Messages. I will absolutely forward this feedback to them, but I would also recommend submitting this feedback to them at learningsuite.byu.edu. The more they hear from their users that they want more functionality in the app, the more likely it will be for them to release it for us.Thanks again for the feedback. We always appreciate it.
