Daily Prayer PC(USA) provides brief services for Daily Prayer based on the Presbyterian Book of Common Worship, including: psalms for the day, readings from the daily lectionary, and prayers of thanksgiving and intercession. Also included are the Revised Common Lectionary readings for Holy days.

The app provides liturgies Morning, Midday, Evening, and Close of Day Prayer, selecting the appropriate service and lectionary readings based on the time and date settings of your iPhone or iPad. The calendar tool allows users to find psalms, readings, and prayers for other dates. Use the clock icon to select Morning, Midday, Evening, or Close of Day Prayer, overriding current time of day.

The “advanced features” menu allows users to toggle on/off various options and select between two versions of the Lord’s Prayer.

A brief tutorial provides information about the practice of Daily Prayer and instruction on using the app.

Also available is a Company of Pastors (In-App Purchase) that adds daily readings, including readings from the Book of Confessions. These readings use a proprietary eight-week psalm cycle, with all 150 psalms represented. This psalm cycle replaces the regular daily lectionary psalms, but the advanced settings menu allows users to toggle between the two options. Readings from the Book of Confessions follow a two year cycle.

I was looking for an app that is available on the fly as a starting place for daily devotions that would incorporate elements of Scripture and prayer. In a simple and basic way, this app does that. Using readings from the daily lectionary and prayers from the PCUSA Book of Common Worship, it gives different selections for morning, mid-day and evening devotions. It is not technologically slick (offering a choice if Bible translations would be nice) but it does the job. In my typical devotions without the app, I tend to follow a biblical book with a few paragraphs each day followed by my personal prayer notes. This opens the world for me with the variety of selections, some of which have led me to sermons or things to share with others. I have not tried the Company of Pastors add on, as I don't have time to explore that. I have an iPhone 6 and have had no problems in operation.

Great content, dated interface

I really appreciate the content and pattern of daily prayer. Am using it now with my congregation. The interface could use some further updates — particularly for newer iOS devices. It doesn’t use the full iPhone X screen for example, and that phone is two generations behind. Same is true on the iPad Pro 11. In Xcode, the developer should see this in the emulator after setting the device to either of these or more recent. Would be great to have full display used. For groups using it, it would be nice also to have the book page numbers in the liturgy and the liturgy included somewhere online for the Book of Common Worship. Thanks for the app! Looking forward to checking out the new share options.

Excellent Easy to Use Guide for Daily Devotional and Prayer

My pastor recommended this app and I have thoroughly enjoyed using it. I usually use the prayers and scripture readings from the morning portion for my morning prayer time. It has been a nice improvement over the much shorter, bare bones, devotionals I had been reading before. I really appreciate how this app gives a good pattern to my prayers as well. I think my favorite part is consistently the collect.
