Tails&Quills
Stories read aloud together
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
An illustrated storybook for emerging readers. Pick a theme, hear a warm narrator, and follow along word-by-word. Every story is new. Every picture is drawn for you.
Tails & Quills is an illustrated storybook app for children ages 4 to 12. Every story is freshly written, every scene is hand-drawn on demand, and every word is read aloud by a warm narrator you can follow along with.
Start with a theme. The home screen lets your reader pick a world - Space, Dinosaurs, Unicorns, Fantasy, Music, or Plants & Trees - or tap Surprise Me for a story that could go anywhere. Tails the fox and Quills the hedgehog lead every story, joined occasionally by a small cast of friends who stay consistent across the pictures.
Read along, word by word. As the narrator speaks, the word being read lights up on screen. Toggle on phonetic marks to see long and short vowel sounds above each letter - the same scheme used in classrooms. Pick the font your reader prefers: a standard sans, a classic serif, or bundled OpenDyslexic for dyslexic-friendly reading. Resize the text with one tap.
Pick your narrator. Every story is generated in both a warm female and a warm male voice. Switch between them in Settings; the change is instant. When the network is slow or unavailable, on-device speech takes over so reading never stops.
Save what you love. Stories you enjoy stay in the Library, each with its own cover illustration. Tap any card to re-read, any time, offline.
Grow with your reader. Set an age from 4 to 12 and the story length, sentence complexity, and illustration detail adjust to match - from six-scene pre-reader books with repeated phrases and simple cartoons all the way to twelve-scene chapter-lite stories with richer language and painterly illustrations.
Designed for real families. No ads. No account. No tracking. Rate limited so the story quota lasts. Content reviewed before it reaches your screen.
Tails & Quills is a quiet, careful app. Open it, pick a world, and share a story with your kid. Close it, and get on with your day.
