Bookadoro: Reading Timer
Pomodoro Timer & Reading Habit
Only for iPhone
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPhone. Not verified for macOS.
Turn every reading session into a focused habit — with the timer built for readers.
Bookadoro combines the proven Pomodoro technique with a full reading tracker, so you don't just log what you've read, you actually build the habit of reading more.
----- READING TIMER THAT WORKS -----
Set a session length, tap start, and read. Bookadoro tracks your pace, estimates when you'll finish your book, and logs every minute to your history. Short breaks between sessions keep your focus sharp — the same technique used by students and professionals worldwide to improve concentration and retention.
----- BUILD YOUR STREAK -----
The single most powerful habit tool in Bookadoro is the streak counter. Read every day, don't break the chain. Miss a day? Use a Streak Shield to protect what you've built. The longer your streak, the higher you climb — through XP levels from Bookworm all the way to Legend.
----- TRACK EVERY BOOK -----
Scan the barcode, search by title, or browse the catalog to add books instantly. Your library stays organised across three shelves: Reading, Finished, and Want to Read. Your TBR pile finally has a home.
----- COMPETE WITH FRIENDS -----
Add friends and see who's reading more this week. Build duo streaks together — keep each other accountable. Climb the weekly league leaderboard. Reading has never been this competitive.
----- BOOK CLUBS -----
Create a club for your book group or join one with a 6-character invite code. Every member's reading minutes and sessions are tracked and ranked on the club leaderboard. Watch the activity feed update in real time as your group reads. The most accountable book club you've ever been in.
----- WEEKLY CHALLENGES -----
A new challenge drops every Monday — read for 90 minutes this week, finish a session every day, explore a new genre. Complete it for bonus XP and Streak Shields.
----- ACHIEVEMENTS -----
Over 20 unlockable achievements track your biggest milestones: first finished book, 30-day streak, night owl reader, genre explorer, and more.
----- DEEP READING STATS -----
Know your reading better than ever:
• Pages and minutes per session
• Average reading speed and projected finish dates
• Books and pages read by month
• Genre breakdown over time
• 12-week reading trends
----- BOOKADORO PLUS -----
The full Bookadoro experience:
• All reading analytics unlocked
• Exclusive app themes (Birch, Slate, Midnight, Bloom, Citrus)
• 3 fresh Streak Shields every month
• Support independent development
Or buy exactly what you need — Stats Pro is a one-time $2.99 unlock. Streak Shields are available as a 3-pack for $0.99.
Whether you read 10 minutes a day or 10 hours, Bookadoro makes every session count.

more New splash screen: opening Bookadoro now shows the icon and wordmark on the app's warm background, in light and dark mode, with no white flash before the app appears.
Performance improvements and bug fixes.

A new look for the Friends feed
– Every reading session is now one card, in the style of a workout feed: the book cover, how long your friend read, how many pages, where they are in the book, and any achievements they earned along the way.
– Page updates and logged past sessions get the same card, just without the time.
– No more scrolling through separate rows for the session, the page update and each achievement.
Fewer pop-ups
– If you closed the "Enjoying Bookadoro?" question without answering, it kept coming back on every launch. It now takes a dismissal as an answer and leaves you alone.
Plus the usual performance improvements and bug fixes.
1.3.3 1d ago
Minutes read, together
– The Community tab now shows how many minutes everyone has read today, and how many in total since Bookadoro started. Today's number ticks up live as readers finish sessions.
Faster book pages
– Book descriptions and the More like this row open noticeably faster, especially when you tap a recommended book or a book on a friend's profile. Descriptions for recommended books now load ahead of time.
Fixes
– A Plus subscription no longer shows as expired when a gifted week of Plus ends on top of it.
– The one-time Silver league welcome gift now arrives on promotion day or not at all, instead of days later.
Plus the usual performance improvements and bug fixes.

New: Guess the Book
Name the book from a BookTok character and a clue. Ten questions per round, four options, six categories plus All of BookTok. Find it in the Games hub.
Improvements
- Onboarding: optional steps such as Goodreads, referral code, invite a friend and notifications now have a clear, full-size Skip button. The pages scroll properly, so nothing is cut off on smaller screens or when the keyboard is open.
- General performance and stability improvements.
1.3.1 Oct 21
Sort your achievements
– The achievements screen has a new sort menu. Switch to Most recently achieved to see your latest unlocks first, with the ones still to earn at the end.
What's new, right on Home
– Home can now show a card when there is something worth knowing: a new feature, a tip, or a tool on bookadoro.com. Tap it to have a look, or close it and it stays gone.
Plus the usual performance improvements and bug fixes.
1.3.0 Oct 20
Home screen widgets
– Two new widgets: Reading streak (small, plus lock screen sizes) and Reading (medium) with your streak, today's minutes and the book you would start on, with a Start button that opens the timer. While a session runs, the widget shows the clock.
Detailed reviews
– Add a detailed review to any finished book: rate Characters, Plot, Writing, Pacing, World-building, Emotional impact and Ending on top of your overall score. Friends see it on your book page.
Timer
– Ending a Pomodoro early now shows the XP you would earn right now against the XP for finishing, and the numbers keep climbing while the dialog is open.
Accounts
– Settings warns before you sign out of an account that has no email or password, since that sign-out would lose it for good, and offers to secure it first.
– Email accounts can set a password from Settings, and the Secure-your-account sheet offers email and password next to the magic link.
– Accounts created with a sign-in link can delete themselves without a password.
– If you sign in with a Google account that has no profile yet, the username page now says so and offers to sign in with a different account.
Goodreads
– Imported books unlock your book badges without awarding XP, and the import screens say so up front.
Plus the usual performance improvements and bug fixes.
1.2.9 Oct 18
Share your reading
– The Share screen is now one composer: switch between your Stats, Streak and Calendar graphics with tabs or a swipe of the preview, pick a month and view for the calendar, and choose a square Post or a 9:16 Story for Instagram, WhatsApp and the rest.
– Sharing is easier to find. Stats has a Share button and a "Share your reading" card, and the Reading Calendar's Share opens the composer on the month you are looking at.
– Exports come out at 1080 px wide on every phone, so they look the same crisp on an iPhone SE as on a Pro Max.
Reading Calendar
– The view switch is now a clear Time / Pages / Page reached selector instead of a single icon.
– Swipe left and right to move between months, and day values are easier to read.
Profile
– A new "Show public profile" button lets you see your profile exactly as a visitor or a friend sees it, with a toggle to switch between the two.
– Settings has a new Affiliate programme row next to Create with Bookadoro.
Higher or Lower
– Four new categories: English Literature, Mystery & Thriller, Science Fiction and Non-fiction, with over a hundred new books.
Performance
– Book covers and profile photos are now decoded at the size they are shown, so a big library uses far less memory and scrolls more smoothly.
Plus the usual performance improvements and bug fixes.
1.2.8 Oct 13
Games
A new Games section is here, starting with Higher or Lower. Two books, one question: which one has the higher rating? See how long you can keep your run going.
Book clubs follow your library
Your progress in a book club now stays in step with your library. Log pages on a book in your library and your progress in every club reading that book updates with it. Update your progress from the club and it is written back to your library copy too. When a club picks a book, or you join one, you start from where you already are instead of from page one.
End a session early, keep what you earned
Stopping a Pomodoro before the end now saves the minutes you actually read and awards XP for that share of the session. The session summary shows how much of the planned time you did. Very short sessions under five minutes do not earn XP.
Fixes
- Reminder notifications now name the book you are currently reading, never one you have already finished.
- Fixed a permission error that could appear when joining a Reading Sprint or leaving a book club.
- After a Goodreads import, the app no longer looks up the same books again on every sync.
Thank you to the readers who wrote in with feedback. Several of these changes came straight from your emails.
1.2.7 Oct 10
- See who gave you kudos
- Tap the kudos count on any friend activity to see everyone who cheered you on, including on activities you have already given kudos to.
Stability
- Fixed a crash that could happen right after signing out.
- Fixed a crash when leaving the session setup screen before your defaults had finished loading.
- The Goodreads sync sheet no longer crashes when you are offline. It now shows a message with a retry instead.
- Improved crash reporting on iOS so we can find and fix problems faster.
Thank you for reading with Bookadoro. Reviews help more readers find us.
1.2.6 Oct 6
- Smoother sign-up: the username step no longer says your own name is taken.
- Reading heatmaps are easier to tap. Touch anywhere on a friend's activity grid and slide across the days.
- The Friends card on Home now opens Friends with a single tap.
- Start Session responds right away after closing the free-session screen.
- Better "More like this" suggestions, including for books in other languages.
- Leagues now demote readers who stop reading, so promotions mean more.
- The Plus offer shows the price in your own currency.
- Faster loading and general fixes.
1.2.5 Oct 5
– More like this: get book recommendations based on any book in your library, now also on your friends' book pages
– See the Bookadoro community rating and your friends' ratings right on a book's page

– Start Session: bigger plus and minus buttons that keep counting while you hold them
– Smooth fades when switching between tabs and screens
– A reading session cut off by the app closing is restored the next time you open Bookadoro
– Sessions left running in the background now end after 4 hours. You get a warning first, and you can still save the session
– We now explain why Bookadoro needs the camera before asking. If the camera is off, you go straight to searching by title
– Spaces in usernames are removed automatically instead of being rejected
– The account prompt when adding friends no longer reappears after every tap
– Clearer messages when the store declines a purchase
– Friend profiles and recommendations load faster
– Bug fixes and performance improvements
1.2.4 Oct 2
- Free reading sessions now show on your lock screen, just like timed sessions.
- Leaderboards, book clubs, sprints and notifications now show everyone's custom avatar and current photo.
- Bookadoro now remembers the session setup you started with, so you don't have to set it up again each time.
- If you close the app during onboarding, you'll pick up where you left off.
- Fixed Plus purchases that sometimes didn't unlock on your account. If this happened to you, update the app and Plus unlocks on its own.
- Fixed Android users being signed out after restoring their phone from a backup.
- Shared profile links now open properly.
- Other small fixes and improvements.
1.2.3 Sep 27
Build your own reader avatar
Make a character that's all yours: pick a skin tone, face, hairstyle and hair colour, a shirt, a hat, glasses and a background. Plus members get extra parts, like a crown, a wizard hat, heart shades and gradient backgrounds.
Reading activity on friend profiles
Your friends' profiles now show their reading activity grid, so you can see how often they read.
A session alarm you can rely on
The end-of-session alarm now goes off reliably, even when your phone is locked. Longer alarm sounds such as rain, birds and wind chimes now play on a locked iPhone too.
Smoother navigation
- Tapping a notification opens the right screen.
- The back button on Start Session no longer gets stuck when you open the app from a notification.
- "Back to home" on Session Complete takes you home in one tap.
Other improvements
- The Friends widget on Home shows all your friends, newest first.
- Bug fixes and small improvements.
1.2.2 Sep 25
– Scanning a book now tells you what's happening: starting the camera, looking for a barcode, or nothing read yet
– If a barcode won't scan, type the ISBN printed under it, or search by title instead
– If the camera feed stops, the scanner offers to restart it
– Fixed the scanner sometimes staying stuck on "Looking up book details" after a scan
– Fixed a case where the scanner could stop reading barcodes after it restarted

– Performance improvements and bug fixes
1.2.0 Sep 11
- Rate Bookadoro anytime from Settings
- Fixed "Export my data" failing for some accounts
- Reaching Silver league or activating your book club for the first time now comes with a small Plus gift
1.1.9 Sep 5
This update brings a few improvements to leagues and leaderboards:
Reach Silver league for the first time and we'll gift you a free week of Plus, on us.
Plus members now show a gold ring around their avatar on the leaderboard, so you can spot them at a glance.
Get notified the moment someone reads their way past you and bumps you out of your leaderboard spot, so you know exactly when it's time to jump back in.
We also fixed a bug that could occasionally stop league rankings from updating correctly from one week to the next.
1.1.8 Aug 27
- Fixed a crash that could occur when scanning multiple book barcodes back to back
- Fixed an issue where viewing another reader's leaderboard profile could show an error
- Book club invites are now easier to share — tap a link to join instantly, no code required
- Fixed book club members showing incorrect names and missing profile pictures
1.1.7 Aug 19
You can now customize your Home screen.
Tap "Customize Home" in Settings, or the new "+ Add Widget" card on Home, to add, remove, and reorder widgets. Choose from your currently reading book, streak, league, friends, and weekly challenge, plus four new stat tiles: Total Reading, Reading This Week, Books Finished, and Books This Year.
Bookadoro Plus members can also add chart widgets — reading heatmap, weekly trend, genre breakdown, and session length — right to Home.
Your current layout is unchanged until you open the customize screen.
Also, fixed an issue where some users were logged out every time they opened the app after their device restarted.
1.1.6 Aug 11
Minor bug fixes to improve the delivery of our reminders
1.1.5 Jun 25
What's new in this update:
- Faster book adding — if scanning doesn't find your book, we now take you straight to a title search so you can add it in seconds.
- More accurate reading streaks and streak shields.
- Weekly challenge progress now correctly counts your reading sessions.
- More reliable push notifications.
- Various performance improvements and bug fixes.
1.1.4 Jun 7
Stats screens get a friendlier welcome
The Books Finished, Books This Year, Current Streak, and Longest Streak detail screens now greet new readers with an illustrated screen and a clear first step — instead of a plain "no data yet" message.
Welcome to your notification center
New users will find a welcome notification waiting when they first open the app, explaining what the notification center is for.
You'll know when a shield saves your streak
When a streak shield automatically absorbs a missed day, you now receive a push notification so you never have to wonder what happened to your streak.
Nudges for first-time readers
If you signed up but haven't started your first reading session yet, the app will send a gentle reminder on day 1, 3, and 7 — routing you straight to the session setup screen.
Get shields reminder
When your shield count reaches zero, a prompt on the home screen reminds you to top up before your streak is at risk.
Bug fixes
- Sign in with Apple on the account linking screen no longer shows an error when the link actually succeeds
- Friends feed now shows achievement names correctly instead of internal IDs
1.1.3 Jun 2
Streak Detail
Tap your Current Streak or Longest Streak card to see every day of your streak as a beautiful grid. Reading days appear in your theme colour — shield days show in amber so you can see exactly how your streak stayed alive. Use the new share button to export your streak
card as an image and send it to friends.
Reading History
Your Books Finished and Books This Year stats are now tappable. Both open a timeline showing every finished book grouped by month, with covers, titles, and authors — tap any book to jump straight to its detail page.
Stats
Tap a genre tag in your stats to browse all books in that genre from your library. The Session Length chart has been redesigned with weekly labels and interactive tooltips.
Shields
New users now start with 3 streak shields, giving you a head start before your first streak is at risk.
Notifications
Reading reminders now reference your most recently read book, making them feel more personal.
Stability improvements.
1.1.2 May 29
The reading calendar now has three display modes: time read, pages read per day, and current page reached. Tap the icon in the top
right to cycle between them. The active mode is shown inline next to your username.
The reading activity heatmap now shows month labels so you can orient yourself at a glance. Tap any day on the heatmap to see the
date and how many minutes you read that day.
Bug fixes and performance improvements.
1.1.1 May 26
New in this update:
Liquid glass navigation bar — the bottom nav bar now uses Apple's latest glass design, floating above your content with a beautiful
blurred effect.
Level progress screen — tap your level badge on your profile to see all reader levels, XP thresholds, and your progress towards the
next rank.
Achievement notifications — achievement unlocks now appear in your notification centre so you never miss a badge you've earned.
Page updates extend your streak — manually updating your current page on a book now counts as a reading day and keeps your streak
alive.
Support button — find a Contact Support button in settings to reach us directly.
Bug fixes and stability improvements — fixed an issue where the bottom nav bar occasionally required a double tap, resolved several
crashes in the timer and session complete flow, and addressed a number of other stability issues.
