Napkin Plan: Floor Planner
Furniture & room layout design
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Will the couch fit? Stop guessing. Upload a photo of any floor plan, drag real-size furniture onto it, and know the answer before moving day.
Napkin Plan is the floor planner for normal people — no CAD skills, no learning curve. If you can sketch on a napkin, you can use Napkin Plan.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Upload any floor plan — a listing screenshot, a photo of paper plans, even a hand sketch
2. Calibrate the scale in two taps using any distance you know
3. Drag in furniture with real dimensions — beds, sofas, dining tables, desks, and more
4. See exactly what fits, measure walkways, and rearrange until it works
EVERYTHING YOU NEED
• 35+ furniture templates with true-to-life dimensions
• Custom furniture — enter your exact measurements for any piece
• Measure tool — tap two points, get the real distance
• Rotate to any angle for tricky corners and diagonal walls
• Real-time collaboration — plan together with your partner or roommate
• Syncs with the Napkin Plan web app, so your plans follow you everywhere
PERFECT FOR
• Apartment hunting — compare layouts before you sign
• Moving — know what fits before the truck arrives
• Rearranging — try ten layouts without lifting a single cushion
• Furniture shopping — check the size before you buy
ON IPHONE AND IPAD
Build your plan on iPad or the web, where there's room to work — then take it with you. On iPhone, open a plan while you're standing in the space to check the layout, confirm a measurement, or nudge something into place.
FREE & PRO
The free plan includes one floor plan and all core tools — no account gymnastics, no credit card. Napkin Plan Pro ($4.99/month or $39.99/year) adds up to 10 floor plans, multi-level plans for lofts and townhouses, unlimited custom furniture, 4 household members, and removes ads. An App Store subscription automatically includes Pro on the web app too.

Could not do angled rooms
Developer Response Thank you for this review. You were right, and it shaped what we built next. Angled rooms are now in Napkin Plan 1.6.2 and later: update the app (or use napkinplan.app), select a room, and tap Edit shape. Drag a point to angle a wall, or tap + on a wall for bay windows, 45° corners and L-shapes. If anything doesn't work the way you need, email hello@napkinplan.app and I'll help personally. — John

Ready for iPhone Duo, and now you can plan together, live. See who's planning with you, and ask to join in.
When someone else is in your workspace, you'll see them right away: a green dot on your account icon on iPhone, and "Live" with their initials on iPad. Tap to see who's there.
Only allowed to view a plan? Tap "Request editor access" and the owner gets a note the next time they open Napkin Plan, with one tap to say yes.
Smaller touches: when two of your devices edit different plans, each keeps its own changes, and edits made on another device show up sooner.

Ready for iPhone Duo, and now you can plan together, live.
Planning with someone else? You'll see their furniture glide across the plan as they drag it, and rooms move live too. Whatever someone is moving shows their initials and stays locked until they let go, so nobody moves the same sofa at the same time. The sync status now reads "Live" when you're connected to everyone else.
Rooms don't have to be rectangles any more. Select a room and tap the new shape button to add, move or remove corners: an angled wall, a bay window, an L-shaped living room. Angled rooms snap neatly against their neighbours.
On iPhone Duo, fold it or unfold it and your plan stays exactly where you left it, with the plan on one side and the menu on the other.
Smaller touches: room names now sit above every wall so they're never hidden, furniture has crisp square corners to match the web, and syncing between your devices is more reliable.

Ready for iPhone Duo, and now your plans work offline.
Floor plan pictures are now kept on your device, so a plan opens with its picture even with no signal: in a basement, a lift, or an empty new flat with no Wi-Fi yet. Plans you haven't opened on this device are fetched quietly in the background.
On iPhone Duo, fold it or unfold it and your plan stays exactly where you left it, with the plan on one side and the menu on the other.
Sharing a workspace for the first time? We'll offer to give it a name, so everyone you invite knows which home it is. Not sure what a workspace is? There's a short explanation in Account Settings.
"+ Custom piece" now opens straight into the editor, so you can make a piece in one step.
A tidier menu: your plan and account details now sit together in the Account section.

Made for iPhone Duo. Your floor plan and furniture, side by side.
Fold it, unfold it, half-fold it: your plan stays exactly where you left it, in every pose. Unfolded, the plan takes one side and the menu the other. Half-fold it like a laptop and the plan sits on top, with the menu below.
• A new Furniture button on iPhone opens just the furniture, half height, so you can place piece after piece and watch each one land. Press and hold it for the pieces you placed most recently.
• One clear look for anything that’s switched on: a coral highlight, the same everywhere.
• Measuring: the second point now starts right on the first, so there’s nothing to drag back.
• Switching floors is now instant and steady, with no flicker of the floor you just left.

Your rooms, in view.
A drawn plan now opens framed on the rooms you have drawn, and switching floors opens that floor’s own view, so your rooms are never left off-screen.
Plans with several floors: each drawn floor grows as you draw on it, on its own.
On a phone in landscape, the menu and tools sit above the floor tabs, and the buttons are bigger and easier to tap.
A room name too long to fit inside its room now sits just above it, and never off the edge of the plan.
When your access to a workspace changes, the notice tells you which workspace.
1.5.7 Oct 10
From your plan to your furniture, faster.
Got a plan with rooms but nothing in it yet? Tap a bed, a sofa or a table to drop it straight in and see if it fits. In the sample plan, Upload and Draw are always on screen, so starting your own plan is one tap away.
A newly drawn plan now opens zoomed in, ready to draw, instead of showing 60 feet of empty space.
Room names find a clear spot of their own: they never print over each other or hide under the buttons of whatever you have selected, and they stay readable at any zoom.
Plans with several floors: the floor tabs stay put when you switch floors, so a quick second tap lands where you meant it.

Drawing your rooms is easier.
Your plan now fits itself around your rooms. Draw near any edge, move a room past it or delete one, and the plan grows or shrinks to match. Room names shrink to fit inside small rooms, and one room never hides another's label.
Move around while you draw or measure: pinch to zoom in on the part you are working on. On iOS 18 and later, drag with two fingers to move the plan while one finger keeps drawing or measuring.
Turning a room or a piece of furniture now follows your finger smoothly. Small rooms are easier to move too: drag from the middle to move one, or from a corner to resize it.
Also: a room's size updates live as you resize it.

Your furniture, ready to place.
• A new My furniture section sits at the top of the furniture list. Star the pieces you actually own, like your sofa, your bed or your desk, and your custom pieces live there too. They follow you into every workspace you own, so trying your own things in a new home takes one tap instead of a search through the whole catalog.
• Drawing a plan is simpler. There's no plan size to set any more: start drawing and the plan grows as you go. Prefer typing sizes? Tap "Add by size" to add several rooms at once.
• If your Pro subscription ends, you now choose which floor plan stays editable. Your other plans stay safe and viewable, and you can edit them again as soon as you resubscribe.
• Also: live updates between people sharing a workspace are more reliable, and Account Settings now keeps your workspace settings in one place.

Editing on iPhone is simpler -- Move and adjust furniture straight away — there's no edit mode to switch on first.
Rename your workspace -- Give a workspace a name that means something, from Account Settings. On iPhone, iPad and the web.
Sizes in your own units -- Multi-part furniture — a bed with nightstands, a desk with a side unit — now shows its dimensions in feet or metres to match your setting.
Steadier floor plan imports -- SVG plans now import as expected, and large photos and PDFs are resized reliably before they upload.
Also in this update -- A clearer message when a file is over the size limit, and the Upload a Floor Plan button now works when no plan is open.
1.5.3 Sep 25
Try Pro free for 7 days.
Pro gives you up to 10 floor plans, printing and PDF export, unlimited custom furniture, real-time collaboration, and up to 4 people in your workspace. Start the trial from the Pro screen — it's the first 7 days free, then it renews unless you cancel.
Adding your own furniture is easier: the measurement boxes no longer disappear behind the keyboard, and the preview stays in view while you type.
Plus a round of small fixes to keep things tidy.

1.5.2 Sep 24
Small rooms are much easier to work with. Tap, rotate, resize or delete even a tiny room without fighting the controls — and its name and size stay readable while you change it.
• Printing now matches exactly what's on your screen
• Drawing a plan is easier to find
• Rename or delete a level right from its tab
• Fixes and polish throughout
1.5.1 Sep 21
Print your floor plan.
You can now turn any plan into a clean PDF with your furniture exactly where you put it — print it, save it, or send it to someone. Pick how much detail you want: just the plan, or every piece numbered with a list beside it giving names and sizes.
Handy for walking a space with a tape measure, showing a partner what you're thinking, or handing movers a page that says where the sofa goes.
Printing is part of Pro.
Also new: if you don't have a floor plan photo to hand, you can now draw the rooms yourself straight from the empty screen — no upload, no measuring up front.
Plus a handful of fixes to make the app steadier day to day.

1.5.0 Sep 14
A cleaner Plans menu, and fixes for a few places the app didn't respond.
• Households are now called workspaces — a clearer name for the same thing, and the Plans menu is named after yours
• The Plans menu is now one list — each plan's actions sit with the plan, and the rest tuck behind "Other Plans"
• "Draw a New Plan" now works everywhere it appears
• View-only members get a clear explanation instead of a button that does nothing
• The sample apartment shows on your first run, then stays out of the way
1.4.1 Sep 8
Guided calibration. Setting your scale is now a step-by-step flow — position the plan, mark each end of a distance you know, check it, then enter the measurement.
Draw rooms by dragging. Drag on the canvas and watch the dimensions as you go. Rooms snap to each other's walls, and you can resize any room by dragging a corner. Prefer typing? Plan setup still takes several rooms at once.
Beds by region. Bed sizes are grouped by national standard — US, UK, EU and Australian — with your region first.
Fixes. Measurements typed as inches are no longer read as feet. Invalid dimensions no longer create tiny rooms. On iPad, the keyboard no longer covers the field you're typing in.
1.4.0 Sep 5
Bug fixes:
• Furniture and the Person Scale marker now appear in the part of your plan you're actually viewing — even when you're zoomed in or panned to a corner. A brief highlight shows you exactly what was added.
• Signing in now takes you straight to your floor plans, instead of briefly flashing setup screens on the way.
• Switching accounts on a shared device now works cleanly, and you'll see fewer unexpected sign-outs.
• Clearer input fields, buttons and menus across the app — especially in dark mode — plus smoother sidebar menus on iPad.
1.3.8 Sep 2
Fewer surprises, smoother edges.
• Finish calibrating and we'll point you straight to the good part — placing furniture and finding out if it fits.
• Plan, household and member limits now appear before you fill in a form, not after you've done the work.
• Closing the upgrade screen puts you back where you were, instead of dropping you on the canvas.
• Creating a new plan takes you straight to it — the menu gets out of the way.
• Your free plan bar now shows your custom furniture allowance, so you always know where you stand.
• A more consistent look — every screen now wears the same colours.
Under the hood
• Live collaboration is steadier, and cleans up properly when you switch or leave a workspace.
• No more "Sync interrupted" when moving between households.
• Furniture categories stay open while you browse.
• Clearer messages when something goes wrong.
1.3.7 Sep 1
Fixes for a few things that got in the way:
• Upgrading is clearer on iPad — the Subscribe and Restore buttons are now visible as soon as the upgrade screen opens, without scrolling.
• If a floor plan's image can't load, the app now tells you instead of showing an empty canvas. Your plan isn't lost — tap Retry.
• Images that are simply still loading now show a loading indicator rather than an error, so a slow connection no longer looks like a problem.
• Tapping Delete on your only floor plan now responds the first time.
• Restored a missing description on the plan details screen.
1.3.6 Aug 27
• Sharing a household is far more reliable, and the free plan behaves the way it should.
• Invitations now appear while you're using the app — no need to close and reopen it to find one waiting.
• When someone changes or removes your access to a shared household, your iPad updates right away, and the message explaining it stays put
until you've read it.
• Your role in a household is shown correctly everywhere, and the member list updates as it changes.
• Free plan limits are consistent no matter how you created a plan — uploaded, drawn, or from the sample — and upgrade prompts explain what you'll get instead of just refusing.
• Placing furniture from search now clears the search and puts the keyboard away, so you can see the piece you just added.
• Corner desks draw as proper L-shapes.
• Delete and Clear moved to the bottom of their menus, away from things you tap often.
• Long floor plan names are no longer cut off in the plan list.
1.3.5 Aug 26
• Floors now appear right above your plan — tap to switch, rename, or add one.
• Floor plans show a loading indicator instead of a blank canvas.
• Switching households is smoother, and tells you which one you're opening.
• Fixed: trying the sample apartment no longer uses up your free floor plan, so you can still create your own.
• Various iPhone fixes and polish.
1.3.3 Aug 20
• Delete a floor you no longer need, without deleting the whole plan.
• Fixed a keypad on iPhone that covered the Calibrate Scale card and couldn't be dismissed.
• Adding a floor now takes you straight to it, ready to upload or draw.
• Various fixes for multi-level plans, including floor images that didn't upload or looked stretched.
1.3.1 Aug 19
• Add a floor to any plan — multi-level no longer needs a multi-image upload (Pro)
• Simpler, redesigned menus on iPhone or iPad compact view
• Viewer mode is visible, and invitations now appear on the canvas
• Better measuring — the magnifier works at every zoom and gets out of the way when you're done
• Rooms measure inside the walls, matching how plans are drawn
• The sample apartment's scale is now accurate
• Edits made on one device stay put when another is left open
1.3.0 Aug 18
Beds for where you actually live.
• 17 new bed sizes — UK and Ireland, continental Europe, Australia and New Zealand — alongside the existing US sizes.
• Your region's beds lead the catalogue. Nothing is hidden: every size is still there, region only decides the order.
Fixed
• Tapping a furniture item now works anywhere on the row, not just on the name or the + button.
1.2.1 Aug 14
Metric units are here.
Working from a floor plan in centimetres? Napkin Plan now speaks your language. Switch to metres and centimetres and everything follows — calibration, the measure tool, room dimensions, and every piece of furniture in the catalog.
• Pick your units when you set up your household, or change them any time from your account
• Your choice follows you across iPhone, iPad and the web app
• Calibrate straight off the drawing — a wall marked 451 is just 0 m, 451 cm, with no converting in your head
Included free on every plan.
1.2.0 Aug 14
• Help no longer lists features as "coming soon" that already shipped — including Draw New Plan, which lets you build a plan without uploading a photo
• The free plan counter no longer counts the sample apartment against your one floor plan
• Floor plan usage now shows in Account settings
1.1.8 Aug 13
Try the sample apartment — now working on iPhone
The sample apartment is a finished floor plan you can practise on:
add furniture, measure a wall, zoom in. It never uses up your free
floor plan.
• Tap "Try the sample apartment" right from the Floor Plans screen,
or open it any time from Help
• New accounts are taken straight to it
• Fixed: on iPhone the sample couldn't be opened at all — from Help
or on first launch
• Fixed: the getting-started checklist no longer ticks off a step
before you've done it
• Fixed: signing in with a different account on a shared device now
starts you off fresh
1.1.7 Aug 12
