Everglades Topo

Elevation for the Glades

Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

A big update: contour lines from Naples to Loxahatchee and Florida Bay, visible at every zoom. See the high ground across the whole Glades at a glance. South Florida looks flat from the road. It isn't. A one- or two-foot rise can mark a tree island, a hammock, an old bank, or the only dry way through a slough — and none of it shows on an ordinary map. Everglades Topo reads dense public laser-elevation surveys and paints those small height changes over satellite imagery, so subtle high ground becomes obvious before you leave the truck. WORKS WITHOUT SIGNAL Every tile, contour line and elevation reading is stored on your phone. No cell service, no data plan, no spinner in the backcountry. TWO WAYS TO READ THE TERRAIN Map — satellite imagery with heat shading, one-foot contour lines, and thousands of marked high-ground candidates. Relief — how far the ground stands above the flat around it, which is the question that actually matters when you're looking for something dry. FIND IT, THEN GO • Thousands of natural high spots, each with its rise, highest point, size and nearest road • Tap any spot for detail, or jump straight to a coordinate • Record your route as you go, and keep each leg as its own trail • Distance scale, compass heading and a follow-me mode BUILT FROM REAL SURVEY DATA Elevation comes from public 1-metre LiDAR — the same source used for flood and habitat mapping — processed to bare earth, so trees and buildings don't masquerade as terrain. WHERE IT COVERS Big Cypress, Everglades National Park and the Homestead–Flamingo corridor, the southern glades, Fakahatchee, Rookery Bay and the Collier Boulevard approach, and the Homestead / Model Land / Biscayne coast. WHAT THIS IS NOT A high-detail terrain reference for scouting and exploring — not a navigation, safety or survey instrument. Public elevation data carries errors and gaps, vegetation affects it, and water levels change. Scout with it, then verify conditions in the field.

Far more of South Florida mapped, and contour lines you can see at every zoom. - Much more ground: contour lines now cover east Naples (Belle Meade, Rookery Bay, Keewaydin, Cape Romano), Loxahatchee and the Water Conservation Areas, the Broward marshes north past Alligator Alley, the Homestead edge, the Biscayne shore, Card Sound, north Key Largo and Florida Bay. Over 6,000 square miles, gap-free. - Lines at every zoom: zoom out and the lay of the land stays on the map, with the main 1 ft lines and then 2 ft lines across whole regions. Zoom in and every 1 ft line takes over. - See where the lines are: zoomed far out, a dashed outline marks the mapped area. Tap inside it to jump straight to line level. - New detail meter in the legend shows how much line detail you're looking at. Tap it to zoom in a step. - Two kinds of contour lines on one map: Sea level, or Above ground (how far the ground rises above the land around it). Switch right under the color bar. - Cleaner lines: no false rings around ponds and canals, labels from the lowest to the highest line in view, a heavier line every 5 feet, and small rises keep their ring. - New Banks layer: every shoreline colored by how high its bank stands above the water. - Long-press anywhere to drop a pin and see the straight-line distance and direction from where you are. - About 67,000 likely high spots and 25,000 tree-island peaks, now including the new areas, with roads, canals and levees filtered out. Tap an island to see the elevation at its peak and at the nearby low ground. - One location button: tap to show where you are and follow along, tap again to stop. Go to a GPS coordinate has its own search button, and the map-centre coordinates can be shown on screen. - A new visual guide on first launch and under Help. - Lines and pins skip Naples, Marco Island and Homestead Air Reserve Base, and farm fields are hidden, so the map focuses on wild ground. - Much smoother panning and zooming.
