Sober Living Companion
Support for sober living homes
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Sober Living Companion is a secure, supportive app built for sober living homes and the people in them — a program of Empower Next Project, a non-profit. It gives operators the tools to run their homes and gives residents the support to stay accountable in early recovery. Residents always use the app for free.

PRIVACY & SECURITY
Your information is encrypted in transit and at rest, with role-based access — residents control their own accounts, and staff see only what they need to support their home.
A NON-PROFIT MISSION
Sober Living Companion is built by Empower Next Project. A portion of what we raise helps fund residents in early recovery who are struggling to make ends meet — so they can focus on staying sober.
Membership fees and any payments are made directly between residents and their sober living home through third-party services; the app simply records and displays payment status.
more We’ve just started using this app and man I wish I knew about it sooner, such an awesome way to streamline everything and it takes so much off my plate. I don’t have to track meetings, or fees! Check it out! You will be glad you did! Tech support was amazing helping me get started!

What's new in 1.1.83
- Daily Journal (for homes that use it): staff post a daily prompt, and residents answer it in the app with writing or photos of their journal pages. Residents get a notification when a new prompt is up, and staff can see who has finished each day.
- End of Day Report (web, for homes that use it): owners and managers can leave a note at the end of each day. Residents never see these notes.
- Bug fixes and performance improvements.

What's New in 1.1.79
Easier signing
- Sign once: your signature fills every signature box that's yours on a form.
- Tap to initial: type your initials once, then tap each box.
- Fill in blanks right on the page, with no pop-ups.
- Second-resident fields are now optional.
For staff
- Sent forms show up right away, with no refresh needed.
- Pass requests now appear on each resident's profile.
- Re-admitting a resident starts a new stay, and their previous stays stay on their file.
- New "Missed" result for drug tests.
- Optional emergency contact when adding a member.
- Reorder profile fields in Settings, and hide the ones you don't use.
- Dashboard houses collapse into drop-downs, with bed counts at a glance.
Everyone
- A clearer welcome screen: sign in, or choose owner, house manager or resident.
- Password reset links work reliably, even from work email.
- Meeting check-ins: a clear message if you check in again within an hour.
- Dates now show as MM/DD/YYYY.
- Back buttons work on every screen.
- Bug fixes and speed improvements.
1.1.79 4d ago
- Record a payment with an optional note, and choose which month it counts toward
- Emailed documents no longer jump back to the top while being filled in
- New drug test types for programs that use them: mouth swab and self-admission
- Reliability improvements
1.1.76 6d ago
- Fixed an issue where a meeting check-in could show as saved but not reach your house manager when the app opened with a weak signal. If a check-in can't be saved, the app now tells you clearly so you can try again.
- Filter in-person meetings by day (starts on Today) and sort by Nearest or Soonest.
- Many more AA meetings nationwide, with the closest ones shown first.
- Nightly review and reminders
- The nightly reminder now arrives reliably.
- Nightly reviews always save, even if you're offline or use more than one device.
- Meeting attendance by house now shows each resident's name on phones.
- A resident's emergency contact from their application now shows on their profile.
- Managers who also live in a house can open their resident view straight from their invite link.
- Clearer messages when a join code has already been used.
1.1.75 Oct 21
- Clearer sign-up. New users now choose "I own or manage a sober living" or "I live in a sober living" before creating an account, so everyone gets the right kind of account from the start.
- Payments screen fix. On iPhone, resident names on the Payments screen could squeeze into a narrow column. Names and buttons now display properly.
- Named meeting places. For homes that use it, the app can now recognize meeting places you've checked in at before ("Are you checking in at…?"), and staff can review and verify meeting check-ins.
- Bug fixes and performance improvements.
1.1.73 Oct 16
- Resident Pay screen: residents on weekly or daily fees now see "$X due every week" and the same running balance staff see, instead of a monthly amount (Michael's issue).
- Apply a payment: staff can apply a payment to a resident's intake fee or balance owed. Any amount over what's owed becomes a regular payment.
- Past residents: payments now show for discharged residents, and the payments export includes them.
- Payment fixes: a duplicate-payment flag, a protection that stops spreadsheet commands slipping into exported CSVs, and clearer wording.
1.1.70 Oct 13
- Add private staff notes, photos and documents to an applicant before they're admitted. Everything stays on their profile after admission.
- The waitlist is now its own "Pending/Waitlist" tab on the Clients screen.
- Admitting someone updates the Clients list right away. No refresh needed.
- New "Payments to confirm" list shows every payment a resident has reported, so nothing gets missed.
- Warnings when a payment looks like it was entered twice.
- Declining a reported payment can now be undone.
- Weekly balances now match across the Dashboard, Payments and resident profiles.
- Residents who haven't had a payment recorded in a while are flagged.
- Only owners can change where rent is paid (Cash App, Venmo, Zelle and payment links).
- "Managers only see their own houses" now applies everywhere: Dashboard, Beds, Payments, Forms and profiles.
- Co-owners can now save home settings.
- Plus bug fixes and speed improvements.
1.1.68 Oct 8
Forms tab, cleaned up
• Form names and descriptions now show in full on your phone. Long titles wrap to a second line instead of being squeezed off the screen.
• Send, Edit, View, Print, Archive and Delete sit on their own row under each form, so every option fits on one screen.
• Clearer buttons: Send, Signed and Pending labels are now easier to read.
• Written agreements sent from a resident's profile open with the full text for pre-filling, so residents always see what they're signing.
1.1.66 Oct 2
- Fixes for brand-new homes: adding your first resident and importing a roster now work right away.
- Staff can pre-fill an agreement before sending it to a resident.
- Owners can open their Stripe balance and payouts from Settings.
- Card payments made in the app are labeled "Card · paid in app."
- Chores that can't be deleted now say so instead of failing silently.
- Dashboard shows today's curfew time when you set different times per day.
1.1.65 Sep 30
Faster loading throughout the app.
Search residents or houses from the Members tab.
- Search residents when sending a form.
- Enter results on pending UA tests with a tap.
- Multiple application links per home, each with its own questions.
- Managers no longer see medications or documents where the home has turned that on.
- Bug fixes.
1.1.64 Sep 29
Sign in your way
• Continue with Google or Apple — one tap, nothing to remember. Already have an account with email and password? Sign in as usual, then link Google or Apple in Settings so either works.
Stays in sync
• If you haven't joined a sober living yet, your sober date, meeting check-ins and nightly reviews now save to your account and match on every device. They no longer reset when you close the app.
Smoother sign-up
• Your phone can fill in your name, email and a saved password.
• A cleaner Home screen until you connect to a home — the SOS and message-my-facilitator buttons appear once you've joined.
• Not subscribed yet? A new Sign Up button takes you straight to soberlivingcompanion.com.
For operators
• Upload Word (.doc, .docx) and RTF files alongside PDFs and photos.
• Profile photo changes now show on every screen right away.
• If a subscription payment fails, update your card yourself without losing access.
Under the hood
• Sign-in screens now use our own secure domain.
• Security hardening across accounts, documents, signed forms and exports.
• Reliability improvements to backups and the server.
1.1.63 Sep 21
• Edit your application form yourself — add, remove and reorder
questions from the Dashboard
• Bed board is now editable: name beds, move residents between
houses, or take someone out
• Date of birth, insurance and your own custom fields on every
resident profile
• See at a glance which residents haven't joined the app yet
• One-time intake fees now bill automatically for new residents
• Call fees whatever your home calls them — program fees, rent, dues
• Forms sent to residents without the app now invite them too
• Clearer setup: Stripe now tells you exactly what it still needs
• Fixes: bouncing email addresses are flagged, expired reset links
explain themselves, and delete buttons work on the web app
1.1.59 Sep 18
- Check-ins no longer hang when your phone's signal is weak.
- Medication lists save reliably.
- Homes can now choose to pass the card processing fee to residents (Settings → Payments).
1.1.58 Sep 15
- Completed (discharged) residents' profiles now open normally — no more "Member not found."
- Fixed the house filter: owners with multiple houses can once again filter the Clients list by house.
- New Help & Support section in Settings — email or call our team in one tap.
- Payments now shows a clear heads-up if your Stripe setup isn't finished yet, so you know when residents can't pay by card.
- Bug fixes and performance improvements.
1.1.55 Sep 8
Fixes and improvements for house operators:
• Forms you send now always include a place to sign. Some
agreements were arriving without a signature line, so residents
opened them and had nothing to tap. Every form sent from now on
gets a signature and date.
• The Completed tab now shows why a resident left, and when —
"Left against advice · Aug 25, 2026" — instead of just the house
name. Where no reason was recorded it says so, so a blank no
longer looks like a normal entry.
Thanks to the homes who reported these.
1.1.50 Sep 1
Fixes and improvements for house operators:
• Discharging a resident works again. You can now record an outcome and
notes, and discharges automatically count toward your outcome and
retention reports.
• Membership fees now always show the current amount. Previously a
resident's profile could display an out-of-date fee, or briefly show a
blank one right after opening.
• Fixed a rare issue where a membership fee could be cleared
unintentionally while a profile was still loading.
• If something can't be saved, the app now tells you instead of failing
quietly.
• Membership fee amounts are checked before saving, so a typo can't be
stored as a charge. Leaving the field blank still means "no fee."
• Improved accuracy of weekly billing dates around daylight saving time.
• The app version now appears in Settings, which makes support questions
easier to answer.
1.1.48 Aug 29
This update fixes a few things you asked for: member tags now update instantly, the "Copy/Share intake link" button no longer freezes, and residents' overnight pass requests show up for staff right away.
1.1.46 Aug 27
• Much faster loading across the app, especially on cellular.
• Member lists now load reliably every time — including the Completed and Denied tabs.
• Pins and flags on the members list update instantly, no refresh needed.
• Balance adjustments (credit or extra owed) apply immediately.
• Recording a payment as "Other" now lets you note the exact method.
• Stability and performance improvements.
1.1.43 Aug 27
• Members list and Bed Board now load reliably every time — no more empty screens.
• Tap a notification to jump straight to the right resident.
• Owners can now turn on email alerts in Settings (off by default).
• New daily billing option, alongside weekly and monthly membership fees.
• You can now edit a resident's sobriety date right from their profile.
• Performance and stability improvements.
1.1.40 Aug 25
• Faster, smoother loading across your dashboard, members, and beds
• Fixed an issue where member lists and bed counts could briefly appear empty on mobile
• More accurate balance tracking, plus a new bulk "plan start date" for billing
• Bug fixes and reliability improvements
1.1.39 Aug 24
• Much faster loading, even on cold start
• Track weekly balances automatically + set plan start dates and credits
• Type dates directly (easier birthdays); find AA/NA meetings near you
• Approve/deny passes, bulk-manage members, and lots of bug fixes
1.1.38 Aug 23
Find in-person meetings near you - The Meetings tab now has an Online / In-person toggle. Tap In-person, then "Use my location" to see real AA and NA meetings around you, sorted by closest first, each with Directions and Add to calendar. Works nationwide.
Online meeting logger moved - The "paste a Zoom link" logger now lives in the Meetings tab (it used to be on the Home screen), so the welcome screen is cleaner.
Gamblers Anonymous added - GA now appears in Meetings with a link to the official meeting directory and hotline.
Welcome screen tweak - If you haven't set a sobriety date, tap "Click here to set your sobriety date counter" to jump straight to the Sobriety tab.
1.1.31 Aug 11
Big update for owners & managers:
• Payment receipts — email residents a clean, professional receipt for any payment, branded with your home's name and contact info.
• "Paid by a third party" — record when an agency or family member pays, note who, and mark it paid or still-owed (open invoices don't count until received).
• Edit a payment's amount, not just its date — fix a wrong entry in seconds.
• Note flags — flag a note to put a reminder right on your all-members list (missed house meeting, missed case-management session, etc.).
• Hide documents from residents — keep any uploaded file staff-only with one tap.
• Meeting check-ins now confirm automatically when the resident has the app open, and always show a real address instead of coordinates.
• New support line: (916) 877-6237.
Plus faster dashboards, one-tap whole-house pricing, a Denied-applications tab, and house-scoped manager alerts.
Questions? Tap the Help tab or call (916) 877-6237.
