On-device AI identifies birds, mammals & insects from photos. Build a life list. Journal every sighting privately.
Field Notes is the personal naturalist journal for backyard birders and wildlife watchers who want more than a species ID — they want a record.
Photograph a bird at the feeder. On-device AI identifies it in seconds, with a confidence score and field-mark callouts. Confirm the sighting, and it appears on your life list. Every sighting you've ever logged, organized by species and location. All on your device. All private.
Your backyard. Your life list. Your journal.
- On-device AI species ID for birds, mammals, insects, reptiles & plants — no internet required
- Personal life list organized by taxonomy, with first-sighting dates and location
- Sighting journal with auto-filled weather, GPS location, and behavior notes
- AI-generated naturalist prose: turn "male cardinal, feeder, aggressive" into a real journal entry
- Sighting map with every observation you've ever made, color-coded by wildlife type
- Streak tracking, milestone badges, and "Life Bird #100!" share cards
- Pattern insights: "Your peak observation window is 6–9 AM"
- Home screen widget: life-list count + today's sightings at a glance
All species identification is processed on-device. Your photos and journal never leave your device unless you share them yourself.
Field Notes Pro ($3.99/month or $24.99/year) unlocks AI species ID, all five taxonomy groups, pattern insights, audio recording, share cards, and CloudKit sync.
