DeductSam: Expense Tracker
Receipts, mileage, tax packet

New in 1.1: upload your W-2 and other tax forms and confirm each line, set a business share once for a phone or internet bill, and see positions nobody has looked at.
The receipt in your cup holder. The drive you never wrote down. The client payment from three weeks ago you're fairly sure cleared.
If you work for yourself, your books live in a glovebox, a camera roll, and a banking app — and nobody's on retainer to pull them together. DeductSam does that part.
Not a CPA firm — built to hand off to yours.
CAPTURE AS YOU GO
Photograph a receipt and the details are read for you — merchant, amount, date — ready to correct before anything is saved. Log a drive and the current IRS standard mileage rate is applied for you. Connect a bank and transactions arrive already sorted, with anything ambiguous held for your review rather than filed silently. Part business, part personal? Set a bill's business share once; DeductSam never picks the number.
ONE PLACE PER TAX SITUATION
Keep a business, a rental, and your personal finances in separate workspaces, each with its own books. Move anything with a tap; nothing moves on its own.
YOUR TAX FORMS
Upload a W-2, 1040, 1098-T, 1095-A or Form 8582, pick the tax year, and confirm each line DeductSam reads — nothing is kept until you do. Other documents are filed with that year's records.
STRATEGY REVIEW
DeductSam runs defined checks against your records and says what each found — the home-office test, how you pay yourself, writing off equipment, hiring your children, short-term rental rules, and household positions like IRA and HSA contributions. Each states plainly what DeductSam cannot verify. Positions nobody has looked at yet are listed apart: not looked at is not a no. A check never decides that you qualify and is not a filing position — that call is yours and your preparer's. Answering its questions is free; full results are part of Pro.
FOR RENTAL HOSTS
Short-term rentals have their own rules. DeductSam tracks personal-use days against rental days and keeps the 14-day rule in view. On Pro, it keeps the depreciation schedule, including furnishings over 5 years.
GET PAID
On Pro, send an invoice with a card payment link. Payments go to your own Stripe account — you connect it, you are the merchant of record, and DeductSam takes no fee and never holds your money. A client refund comes off that invoice's income.
ASK SAM
Sam explains what it's seeing in plain English and gives you the exact question to put to your preparer. It never certifies, and it never invents a number about how you use something.
YEAR-END PACKET
When the year closes, export a packet organized to Schedule C or Schedule E, with receipt coverage, income summary, quarterly estimate dates, and the positions you recorded. Hand it to your preparer, or file with it yourself. The packet is free on every plan.
WHAT IT ISN'T
DeductSam advises and builds the record behind each position. It does not prepare, sign, review, or file tax returns, or represent you before any tax authority.
FREE TO START
Free covers expenses, income, mileage, receipts, payroll, tax forms, the packet, every check's questions, 10 Sam messages a month, and one personal plus one business or rental workspace. Pro adds bank sync, Sam with no monthly limit, full check results, Tax Health, Analytics, invoicing, depreciation, unlimited workspaces, and team access with a free accountant seat.
SUBSCRIPTION
DeductSam Pro — $24.99 per month, or $250 per year.
A 14-day free trial is available on the MONTHLY plan only. The yearly plan does not include a free trial.
Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. Ratings & Reviews
- This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
- Say it once. If only part of a bill is for your business, like your phone or internet, set the business share yourself, note what backs it up, and tick "Always use this". New charges from that merchant count at your share. DeductSam never picks the number.
- Your tax forms, read with you. In Year-End, upload a W-2, 1040, 1098-T, 1095-A or Form 8582, pick the tax year, and confirm each line before anything is kept. Long forms have a Keep all button once you've seen every line. Other documents can be read on request: you see what's printed, and it never fills anything in.
- A bigger household review. Your personal workspace now checks 15 positions, including IRA and HSA contributions, student loan interest, education credits, the child tax credit, and health insurance you pay for yourself. Answers you gave before carry over, marked "from before" until you confirm them. Answering is free; full results are part of Pro.
- Positions nobody has looked at yet. Under the checks in Opportunities, every position DeductSam covers is listed as looked at, asked and not answered, or not looked at. Not looked at is never a no. Open any one to answer just its questions.
- Counts, not percentages. Receipts show as a count, like "12 of 15", on Home, Tax Health and Year-End, and your profit margin is shown in dollars.
- Rentals: appliances, carpet and furniture now depreciate over 5 years (IRS Pub. 527), not the building's 27.5. Assets you already recorded stay as they are until you choose. Assets is part of Pro.
- Refunds, both ways. Refund a client through Stripe and it comes off that invoice's income. Each Pro charge, wherever you subscribed, is logged as an expense in your first business or rental workspace, and a refunded charge drops to what you actually paid.
- Sam runs on a newer AI model, and on the free plan a message Sam couldn't answer no longer counts toward your 10 a month.
