Theta is a democratically owned, non-profit alternative to existing social media, built together with media, civil society, volunteers and foundations. YOUR CLUBHOUSE AND COMMUNITY CENTRE: Create or find communities based on your neighbourhood, your interests, your association, your parents' group, your diagnosis community, your party, your study group, your favourite media outlet, your school, your workplace or your movement. Communities can be public, private or hidden, and their administrators decide who can join. PRINCIPLES: Less AI noise → more citizenship Fewer bots → more besties Less algorithmic smokescreen → more transparent influence Fewer endless forms → more human support Less foreign influence and ownership → more local sovereignty Less monopoly → more interoperability POSTS, EVENTS AND CONVERSATIONS: In your communities you can post, comment, react, plan events, and share photos, videos and files – just as you're used to from groups on social media. All the groups you belong to come together in your own feed. SAFETY AND MODERATION: Verify yourself with MitID, the Danish national eID, so others can see you're a real person. Report content to the group's administrators, and block people you don't want to hear from. Sort your feed the way you like. YOUR PROFILE, YOUR DATA: You decide how detailed and open your profile is. You can download all your data and delete your account directly in the app. Theta is hosted at DTU's Computerome data centre. HELP BUILD OUR NEXT AND BEST SOCIAL MEDIA: Help develop the platform by recording and sending feedback straight to the Danish developers. The goal is a platform that supports digital democracy and civil society by putting communities first. What should our next social media be able to do? Carpooling, shared preparedness, Q&A with your local politician, donating clothes and things, better public debate, bridge-building, an exchange for help and volunteering, a fact-check hotline? Theta is run by the cooperative association Os & Data FMBA in Denmark.
