The first series, Coping with Stress, constitutes the core practice curriculum of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, USA. They can be used together with Full Catastrophe Living: Using the Wisdom of Your Body and Mind to Face Stress, Pain, and Illness (revised, 2013). These series include for example:

Sitting Meditation

The second series focuses on mindfulness in everyday life. These meditations go well together with Jon’s book, Wherever You Go, There You Are: Mindfulness Meditation in Everyday Life. These series include, for example:
Short, medium and long duration sitting meditation
Lying down meditation practice

The third series, Healing Yourself and the World, provides an opportunity to go deeper into the meditation practice. These meditations go with the book, Coming to Our Senses: Healing Ourselves and the World Through Mindfulness (2005). It offers guided meditations on:
- Body scan
- Breath work
- Meditations on choiceless awareness
- Meditations on loving-kindness

More about Jon
Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD is internationally known for his work as a scientist, writer, and meditation teacher engaged in bringing mindfulness into the mainstream of medicine and society. He is Professor of Medicine emeritus at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where he founded its world-renowned Stress Reduction Clinic in 1979, and the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society (in 1995) Jon is the author of fourteen books published in over 45 languages, including:

I was looking for some additional guided meditations to supplement others I use periodically. I do a combination of self guided meditations and those guided by others. I was reading Kabat-Zinn’s book (Full Castrophe Living) and decided to try his meditations. This is exactly what I was looking for in an app. This is a reasonably priced app with some excellent guided meditations, a beginners review of meditation and some guided yogas. The biggest surprise is that I was not expecting to find the yogas so helpful.

The only feedback I have for the developers of the app is that I don’t like the bells at the beginning and end of each meditation, and I think its amusing that JKZ says on the other side of the “tape.” The tape reference I am presuming is because he has used some of this material over the years with his patients in the hospital setting.

My history using Kabat-Zinn

This is a great app and I highly recommend it for anyone seeking meditation practice and/or mindfulness meditation. Those with a meditation practice could benefit. I speak from my experience! I purchased and used the Series 1, 2 and 3 apps 5-6 years ago after using the CD set. (Had to return CD set to the owner)

This version, which includes the former Series 1, 2 and 3, fixed some bugs and adds many more options and information not included in the earlier apps.

I have also had great assistance from the developer when I needed some answers about the new app.

Please keep the bells in the audio guided meditations. App extremely helpful.

I found this app helpful and irreplaceable for me. Please keep the bells in the guided meditations and adding more meditations when you can as you have done with adding the ones for beginners and pain relief. I found the yoga and body scan very helpful. MBSR helps me manage severe anxiety without medication. I do the 45 minute versions once a week and have so for 7 years.
