Navigation tools/features could be improved
Google maps is a powerful foundation to run the driver navigation. However, it would be nice if all speech/navigation volume could be completely disabled like it was before this last update. The Lyft app will continue to give verbal directions when using it in destination mode, even if the app is running in the background, it shouldn’t hijack your Bluetooth and use it give directions unless the user desired this option. Also, it would be nice to have a “night mode” like the Uber driver app. Even with the phone’s screen brightness turned down the app display is really bright and distracting after dark.
Other than those two features which are under the navigation aspect of the app, it’s a easy app to use. I like that I can see when Lyft thinks there won’t be much demand so I can plan to drive during busier times. I wish that I didn’t have to wait 10-30 minutes after going online to start giving rides, when I sign on to work, I’m ready to drive.
Also, when is Lyft going to make it policy that smoking isn’t tolerated? If someone is putting out their cigarette as I’m pulling up to pick them up, I’m most likely going to pass them on to the next driver because I know how long their nasty stench lingers in my highly maintained personal vehicle. Lyft should tell smokers to take a cab, or that should be an option in the app, smoking or no smoking!
There are a couple things I’d like to see in this app, if possible: (1) a way to see the event guide (that shows up in Updates) while still in Driver mode. While in driving mode the other day, I tried to check out local events in the app, but couldn’t unless I turned off driving mode; (2) a way to input what time I needed to be at a destination myself so that the app doesn’t add passengers to my queue automatically if they’ll make me late. I just want to make sure I don’t get passengers who are going out of town or are going across town.
Another thing I’d like to see is having the app ask me if I need a break after getting a certain # of passengers or driving a certain # of miles / kilometers. For example, last Saturday, I drove about half an hour to take 1 passenger across town, and a passenger was added to my queue as I got closer to the 1st passenger’s destination. The 2nd passenger’s destination was half an hour way in almost the same direction toward where I picked up the first destination. I was at a quarter of a tank of gas by the time I dropped off this 2nd passenger, and I kept getting passengers added to my queue each time I dropped someone off. I finally got a break, but it would have been nice if the app asked if I needed a break so I wouldn’t have to worry about leaving a passenger stranded, especially if a passenger requesting me already had at least 1 other driver cancel on them.
app slow to react when at red light or after making a turn
Hi, I’m a driver in Baton Rouge, La & I really have problems when at a red light & the app shows to go straight 200ft then after passing thru the light the app says to turn right or left! This requires a U turn & confuses the rider & driver as we have heavy traffic in our town & this error sometimes requires driver to go 1/2 mile or more out of the way.. Also many times after making a turn the app is slow to react & indicate the next move causing the driver to miss the turn as he has already passed it..
What are your guidelines for customers who are not outside when driver arrives & when driver attempts to make contact the rider’s phone doesn’t answer or goes to voice mail or has not set up voice mail? One would think the rider would be available but I’ve had this happen many times.. why does the driver not get a fee when the customer is a NO SHOW or cancelled the ride when driver is in the rider’s parking lot? I have trouble turning off my app sometimes while moving which causes the page to slide over then the driver has difficulty focusing on the road causing driver to get a low acceptance rating.. we could use a bigger % also!
