Even if you try to keep the notifications to an absolute minimum the first thing this ap wants to tell you every time you open it is that you need to turn them all back on and then that your volume isn’t loud enough to hear. Honestly! Like a needy girlfriend, this ap is constantly whining at you that you aren’t listening and need to do more to hear them. I have now turned off all notifications because I can’t stand that tornado warning red banner exclamation and sound blare that comes every time the screen times out and has to be reopened. It’s almost as obnoxious as the chef IQ probe ap which has that speaker base you can’t shut off and is also trying to talk to you constantly. I would get rid of these probes if I knew of another app that doesn’t ping you every time your eyes left their screen. Another thing that needs to be addressed is their cook time prediction software. It swings wildly by 10-20 hours within a few minutes of a 5 degree ambient temperature change. What they did get right is the ambient temperature sensor which is really good now. The new thickness is nice, high temp capability and multiple sensors are now much better on the +.
Certain notifications are required to ensure that food does not get ruined or overcooked. However, there are some settings in the app, and many phones, that will allow some customization of the alerts. As for the cook time estimates, these can be affected by various factors, probably the least known of which is what is referred to as ‘the stall’. The stall is more prevalent on larger cuts of meat during long cooks and occurs when evaporation starts taking place at the surface, cooling the temperature by removing heat (similar to the way perspiration works), which can alter the estimate calculation. However, there can be other reasons that this occurs, but you can always get assistance with any questions or concerns like this from MEATER Customer Service, every day of the year.
