Not that reliable

When it works it's wonderful but very spotty and I've lost a bunch of recordings due to bad pairing etc.

Clunky at best

Here’s the thing. The Memory Mic hardware itself is pretty nice. I’m a big fan of Sennheiser, but it feels like they farmed out the App development to someone who doesn’t quite get it. There’s some issues that need to be addressed:
1. It desperately needs an exposure control when in video mode
2. It could use a focus control when in video mode
3. The pairing needs to be updated and streamlined

I feel like when pairing, it’s a bit of a roll of the dice when it truly connects or just appears it’s connected. Sometimes it looks like it is, but there’s no audio being registered on the meter. So it’s a bit of a dance of ‘do I turn on the memory mic first or the app?’ Results seem to vary.
At one point, I (think) Filmic Pro was supposed to support the Memory Mic, back when they first announced it. That obviously never came to fruition. Too bad, as that’s my preferred video app and this one is as bare bones as it gets. No control over exposure or focus. I don’t even really need zooming, but hey, I feel like that’s asking for the moon at this point.

Will I keep the Memory Mic? I just got it today and I’m already on the fence. It’s a spectacular idea and was really excited when first announced but the price tag seemed prohibitive. Now that Sennheiser had a special going, I thought I’d try it. But even with the excellent mic, it’s massively crippled by the app itself. Yes, they overhauled it a while ago, but it still feels half baked.

C’mon Sennheiser. You have an excellent reputation. We want the same excellence for these app you place into your hardware.

It’s really a two star review, but I added one for the Mic itself and while it’s all “usable” it definitely isn’t seamless

Nice Mic Option

This mic is ingenious! The sound quality is very good, especially if you want to remove the ambient noise from your video recordings. Afterwards you can adjust how much ambient noise you want removed.

The mic has to be used in conjunction with with the Memory Mic app. When recording video, the audio is synced with the video after recording. A connection is made via Bluetooth and WLAN IEEE 802.11 to transfer audio. It’s best test recordings ahead of time to ensure that everything is syncing properly. Also works well with the iPad Pro.
