Originally I was looking forward to using this app—after all, Philips 66 is offering 15¢ per gallon savings for using the app to buy gasoline. HOWEVER, there is a “catch.” You may link it to a Phillips card, a MasterPass MasterCard, a Chase card, OR your bank (account) card. I don’t need/want a MasterPass card or a Chase card. And there is no way that I am going to link my bank card to this app. I was hoping I could use an existing credit card; I do not have a MasterPass or a Chase card.
Additionally, this app is just downright cumbersome and complicated to use. I deleted it from my iPhone.
Map tracking is off
I’ve had this App for many months now. It started out great with little issues. I called the helpline they helped as good as they could. As time went on, the app keeps getting more and more frustrating to use. The helpline is never open when I need the most. The last three times I’ve talk to anyone they were supposed to get back with me. They tried to call me one time but I didn’t realize it was them with the phone number but I didn’t know so I didn’t answer. But I have not received another call since. When you get to the station the little blue dot that is supposed to be you is usually .38 miles or over 1000 feet away from the Destiination in which you are sitting in front of. So the app will not let you Proceed with putting in the pump to get your gas from because it states you were too far away. Sometimes walking into the store itself with the app on it will finally connect correctly to let you use it. Most of the time it doesn’t and the store clerks never seem to be able to help you with the app. And cannot give you the gas at the discounted price because they don’t have anything to do with the app. So you’re just out the money time and for me patients. I would not recommend this to anyone who doesn’t have an extra 35 minutes to drive around until they can get the blue dot on the station to be able to pump their gas. Most of the time it’s a total waste of time for what little bit we are actually going to save.
When it works, it’s fairly nice. For no apparent reason it frequently does not work. This varies from it freezing when you hit pay at pump, to inexplicably just cashing when you enter the pump number. Something of a frustration sitting in car at pump trying to get app to work.
As observation, many credit cards will give you 3% cash back on gasoline purchases, which matches the 10 cent discount of this app at $3.33 per gallon. Above that you should use your credit card. Below that this app has an advantage, but at $2.50 / gallon, the advantage is only 2.5 cents per gallon and at least the credit card always works and is faster.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
