Good design, bad software

This is a good product with few alternatives, but the app has tons of race conditions causing the wrong temperature and settings to show frequently. Also when changing the heat setting, your change gets reverted a second later quite often. They really need to fix these things as the app is the real value of the product.

Excellent HomeKit electric baseboard heater thermostats

These thermostats require your phone to be joined to a 2.4GHz radio band WiFi network before you set them up. Make sure your phone is temporarily configured to use that WiFi band only. HomeKit setup took up to 60 seconds for a couple steps, but otherwise went off without a major hitch. I’m very happy with the app’s features and the thermostat’s capabilities. Installed them in two rooms and can group them together as a single zone to control both simultaneously. They look elegant and modern and are perfect for a remodeled space. Hookup was easy and the app guides you through an excellent wiring tutorial. Nice job!

Requires allowing them to track you

In order to do basic things like adjust the brightness of the thermostat’s screen, Mysa requires you to create an account and allow them to collect your location, your device settings, when you change your thermostat and what you set it to, and more. They can store that information indefinitely and sell your data to anyone they want. If you don’t create an account and allow them to collect that information, the app will continually pester you every time you open it and require you to skip past multiple screens. It appears that exploiting their users is a core part of their business model.

If you’re stuck with one of these, use HomeKit and automations for dealing with it. I use an automation to turn off the display at night and for adjusting temperatures based on my location.

Developer Response ,

Hello there, we do apologize that you are being asked for location data when accessing the Mysa App! This should only occur if geofencing is enabled within the app as Mysa will require location data to activate this feature. We are investigating this further to ensure that Apple is only asking for this information when this is enabled!

We are committed to not using this information for any other purpose than within our App for improvements, this information is in no way sold to anyone or passed along outside of Mysa.

HomeKit is indeed a very useful alternative that Mysa can integrate with if you wish for this information to be tracked and used by the Apple Home App!
