Description
In today's connected world, Mobile ID offers a private, secure, contactless way to verify identity, either at home or on-the-go. Everything is on your phone – now your ID is, too!
Intuitive, easy-to-use and highly convenient, New York Mobile ID can be used anywhere it’s accepted, in any context a physical ID would be used – with enhanced privacy features. Only your Face ID, TouchID or six-digit pin will unlock the app and access your Mobile ID.
In five simple steps, you can create your New York MiD:
1. Download the app and set permissions
2. Verify access to your phone number
3. Use your device camera to scan the front and back of your driver license or ID card
4. Follow the steps to capture a selfie
5. Set up app security and you’re good to go!
Please note: New York Mobile ID is an official state-issued ID, serving as a companion to your physical ID. As not all entities are able to verify a Mobile ID, you should continue to carry your physical ID.

Ratings and Reviews
Good idea questionable usability
It appears convenient to have my ID on my phone. However, the usability comes into question when someone is waiting for the information but the app requires an update and there’s no service. I wouldn’t want to rely on this solution if I was being stopped by the police. I would much prefer storing this in my Apple wallet.
I imagine waving my phone around trying to find signal for an irate officer with no patience.
“Yeah just trying to find signal. Ok just 10 minutes until the download completes.”
Hot Garbage
Wow. Not sure what they were thinking. They launched a standalone app, which isn’t what people want and requires access of the phone, and did not register it to wallet.
You’d think we’d get some competency here for all that we spend in tax dollars instead of the cheapest load of garbage they can toss at us. Gotta wonder who designed the RFP and why. I’m not gonna bash the developer as this is not necessarily their fault. In fact this would’ve been probably very useful when the iPhone 4 came out but it is absolutely not what most constituents want, no one knows about it with good reason and it’s obviously there in the reviews for good reason.
It’s worth having…possibly…but NYS should pony up whatever Google and Apple want which can’t be too much considering small businesses can do it as well as large businesses. It’s just more evidence of bad priorities and perhaps bloated procurement. In 2024 it’s really odd they come up with this and tell us it’s cutting edge security.
Sometimes nothing is better than something
I wanted to give this a try for times where I leave my wallet at home and might still need to show my ID. I was able to enroll successfully once, but after a migration to a new phone, the app would immediately crash upon opening. The only way to resolve this was to uninstall the application. Upon reinstalling the application the only option I had was to try to enroll again. Initially, it seemed like it was working, but it let me tap past adding a pin and invalidated the enrollment session. Upon trying to enroll yet again it failed. I think it’s time to give up on this experiment. It’s unclear what New York has against using Apple wallet but anything has to be better than this.
