Ratings and Reviews
Great App and Support
I had been a paying subscriber of Ultimate Guitar for many years when a recent update wiped out my personal edits of 600 songs. They tried to make me think it was isolated to me, but I checked around and discovered that UG’s app no longer supports any symbols, just lettered chords. Years of work down the drain. I was ready to go old school (songs in a binder) when I heard about OnSong. Admittedly, there is a learning curve and adjustments involved. Songs transfer easy enough from UG. After that, if you require notation other than bare chord letters, you’ll need to edit in symbols dropped by UG that work on OnSong. But OnSong Premium support has been fantastic, getting back to me promptly on several occasions with detailed, personalized instructions on how to make the app work for me. And the appearance, styles, and autoscrolling features are miles better than anything I had at UG, even before the endless bugs introduced in recent years. The one drawback is that OnSong doesn’t have a library of songs. As I add new songs in the future, I’ll simply use the free version of UG, and then export them to OnSong.
Applying to to all songs doesn’t work
The only thing more frustrating than having to start paying a monthly payment on an app you bought 10+ years ago, is having to pay a monthly payment on an app you bought 10+ years ago that now doesn’t work as good as it use to. Updates are supposed to make things better, not worse. And it could simply be my ignorance with modern technology but I do know I’m a pretty smart guy when it comes to most things. The pull down settings menu, where you can change chords, highlight chords, etc and the three dots has the option of apply to all songs. So I’m assuming that any changes made on that screen would be changed on ALL SONGS since there’s a button that says apply to ALL SONGS. Please get this fixed OR stop charging each month that it doesn’t work. We have used OnSong for our worship at church and have since 2013, I believe. I guess it’s just the way of THE WORLD to take advantage of those who use their apps and when they realize its popularity has skyrocketed, they think they can start charging people who have used it and depended on it for years. Please just fix the bugs that cause things to work improperly. Apologies for seeming rude, just giving constructive criticism for someone that has had OnSong for a decade.
Developer Response ,
Hello! Thanks for sharing your criticism with us! We absolutely would love to help you as well as to clarify a couple of things. We definitely want to communicate that moving to OnSong 2024 (our subscription app) is completely optional and is by no means required. Our legacy, one-time purchase OnSong 2020 app will continue to receive security and bug fixes for the foreseeable future. If you'd like to keep up with the latest and greatest new OnSong features, 2024 would be the way to go, but in no way are you required to make the switch from 2020 to 2024. OnSong 2024 is a subscription-based app designed for new OnSong users and for users who want to keep up with OnSong's newest features, but many people find that OnSong 2020 suits all their needs just fine. That being said, OnSong 2020 is no longer available for purchase due to confusion and double purchases. However, if you prefer using OnSong 2020 and previously had access to it, no problem at all! If you deleted it from your device or just don't have it installed, you can easily redownload it via opening the App Store on your device > Profile > Purchased Apps > search for OnSong 2020 and redownload OnSong 2020 from there. Just make sure you are using the same Apple ID that you originally used to purchase it. As far as the problems and issues you are encountering, we are sorry to hear about them, and we would absolutely love to give you some assistance. If you’re experiencing any issues with OnSong, the best way to ensure they are addressed is by contacting our support team. You can do this through opening your OnSong 2024 app on your device > Utilities (gear icon) > Support > Contact Us. Our support team will get back to you ASAP. Thank you again so much, and we hope that all of this is helpful to you!
***** Five Stars for OnSong
I’ve used OnSong now for over three years in a solo act and also use it for my work playing with three or four different bands. OnSong has always been stable, and I’ve been able to create sets for myself and my solo work, and for each of my bands plus, I use it to import backing tracks for my solo work. I’m going to check into the New OnSong 2023, which I’ve already downloaded. differences are in those backing tracks. Any help from OnSong on this would be appreciated. OnSong is a great app for the working musician. The only thing is that if you’re using Mac, be careful when upgrading the operating system until on song tells you to do so are you may run into problems. Other than that the app is great.
