Companion And iPads - App Closes Immediately When Opening!

1 March Updste: Oticon Contacted me, a positive! Second point, my Oticon Companion app at this moment believes I am NOT CONNECTED TO MY iPad BUT I AM CURRENTEDLY STREAMING MY TV TO MY OTICONS! Obviously, I cannot adjust/view anything until I shutdown my iPad and aids and restart from scratch! Oticon is adding features but not correcting Companion’s common failures! The iPadOS is not identical to the IOS for iPhones, it seems they are focused on iPhone owners?

My iPad Pros have the Companion app repeatedly immediately close! Irritated, YES THIS IRRITATES ME! — I have the latest iPadOS and find if I repestedly recycle power off then on, I can overcome this failure. You know I should not have to! I am writing this message immediately after this multiple failure of Companion to STAY OPEN, rather then close in less than ONE SECOND! The interface is to disorganized, with action paths by the user unclear unless you use Companion often. With this Companion could save several steps when Apple’s iOS path to Pair the aids fails (5 steps to ask for Pairing!); Companion offers Pairing ON FAILURE (never Paired for me though). But this Pairing Help can be accessed faster within Companion when you can adjust other wanted actions to apply to your Oticon aids. Landscape mode for iPads!

I had the ‘OticonOn’ for over a year, then was switched by my audiologist to the ‘OticonCompanion’ app. Therefore, I believe I am qualified enough to constructively critique the app correctly.

O.Companion negative characteristics-

40 second startup time from initial app reboot
All app features not seamlessly responsive
Occasionally, some features never respond at all after a reboot (ie.- volume control, human voice focus)
human voice focus feature not reliable in either noisy or quite environments
Perhaps this is the best which current technologies can offer at this time. However, I am certain most individuals who move to hearing aids are primarily interested in achieving greater human voice recognition, above all. They are not concerned with enhancing their hearing for anything else, as only quality human communication is paramount to all rational individuals.

Were a hearing aid developed that would block all other sounds, yet substantially enhance only the voice of my grandchild standing in front of me, I could easily accept any other flaws in its performance.

Until then, the joke about hearing aids being expensive ear plugs will remain.

Dear user, thank you for your insightful feedback. Do not hesitate to reach out to our Global App Support team if you are experiencing any app related issue at appsupport@oticon.com. Also, you might want to reach out to your audiologist to check if the hearing aids need a fitting adjustment to provide for the hearing quality you are missing. Kind Regards, Oticon

TERRIBLE APP

Oticon Companion is a TERRIBLE APP. I loved having Oticon On; it was wonderful. Things stayed connected. Never had any issues launching the app or communicating between my Apple Watch and my iPhone and the hearing aids. Was forced to changed to Oticon Companion by the manufacturer. It has sucked ever since. My hearing aids will randomly stop being paired for no apparent reason. The app loads slowly, it takes for every to re-pair. Sometimes the watch won't change the HA settings when I ask it to. I rely on these hearing aids to be able to function in my everyday environment. It got so bad, that a month ago, I actually had my audiologist send my hearing aids in one at time to the manufacturer for repair because it was disconnecting so frequently, I assumed it was a mechanical failure of the HAs themselves. Oticon couldn't find anything wrong, so they ended up replacing both hearing aids (thankfully, it was on their dime- they were ONLY a year old!!) They're disconnecting less frequently now, but they're still disconnecting. And it's FRUSTRATING. Based on this, I can only assume that it's an app issue and, when it comes time to get new hearing aids, I will be looking at other products where the technology integration is more SEAMLESS and BETTER SUPPORTED. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

Developer Response ,

Hi, thank you for your feedback. I am very sorry to hear that you are having these in-app disconnections. We will be happy to do all we can to help get you a stable connection. Please write us at appsupport@oticon.com and we will be happy to do all we can to troubleshoot this so that you can have a stable connection between your hearing aids and iPhone. A common cause for in-app disconnections can be if the hearing aids are connected to another device, such as an iPad. If this is the case, the way to transfer the connection between devices running iOS 17 is to change the audio input by tapping the airplay symbol in the top right part of the control center (opened by swiping down from the top right corner of your device) and choosing your hearing aids. For devices running iOS 16 or older you can transfer the in-app connection by starting to play any sound from the device you want to use with your hearing aids. Alternatively, it can be necessary in some cases to toggle Bluetooth OFF on the iOS device not used with the hearing aids. Best regards, Oticon
