I have been using Paddle Logger for some time. It has issues but all-in-all it was a good app ... until a few days ago. I was on the water and ready to take off. I hit Start. A message came up to enter a PiT contact. There was no way to bypass or delay this requirement! I tried going back to start several times. The message kept coming up. It would not let me proceed without filling out a PiT contact. I did not have my reading glasses so I couldn’t have filled out the PiT contact even if I wanted to! I could not use the app that day! I had an app I use for walking so I changed to that app and was able to record the data; otherwise I would have lost the data for that day. I am so appalled by this requirement to fill in data before I could continue to use the app on so many levels that it’s hard to know where to start, so I’ll simply end. I will not be using this app again. I also would caution anyone considering buying this app that unless you don’t mind mandatory, intrusive and unwarranted data collection in an app you are charged for, you are better off using another of the exercise apps. Several that are designed for bicycling or walking can also be used for paddling and rowing.
Edit**Hi again, thanks for getting in contact. I wanted to explain a few things regarding PiT. Paddler in Trouble is a safety service that sends a message to a contact on your behalf should you get into difficulty on the water. It is not mandatory. It is part of our Pro package and you are able to turn it off on the home page of the app if it is a service you do not wish to use. The bar above the taskbar at the bottom of the screen on the start page is the PiT bar. The left hand toggle says Off. Just make sure it is set to off and you will be good to go. With it switched off, you will not be asked to enter details as it requires at least one designated emergency contact. If you have a concern. I will though reiterate we have no interest in your personal details, numbers are anonymous and automated in a way we are unable to access them. I hope that alays any fears, do get in touch if you have any other queries, thanks, David**Hi Capt M14, Love your suggestions. That is something we could do to improve the image taking capability of the app. Especially for wildlife spotting! Regarding the pause issue, get that it may be better to have a hold to pause. When you say that you may have knocked it, do remember that the app will still track when the screen is locked - which will mitigate any accidental pausing. Please do keep an eye out for your suggestions in the future!! Cheers, David
