I really want to like it but...

Why wouldnt there be a pass through lightning port that you can charge your phone while using this? I can only record 2 hour long sets before the phones dead, and if i dont stop the recording before the battery dies, the recording doesn’t save. Contacted shure support about this and they said it should save it to camera roll automatically if the battery dies, but i lost 2 hours of video this weekend. Not happy. Id recommend using the mv88 only if you do short videos. Anything longer than an hour or two is flirting with disaster. This app and the mv88 drain your battery in less than 2 hours with airplane mode on and the screen brightness as low as it goes. You also cant lock the screen to preserve battery life. It stops recording if you do that. Very frustrating.

lost my work too... unreliable

I wish I’d read more reviews on this because I had the same issue of a recording not saving onto my camera roll (some sort of recording error) and I ended up losing some important work. I could still replay it in the app temporarily but the exporting didn’t work and after I did another test recording, I think my phone overwrote the file with the new recording and there was no existing menu option or anything where I could access/export the previous lost recording (i tried to email it to myself after a pop up came up but the email itself was empty with no attachments. It’s just gone).

Beware guys! Just in case I would enable “iOS screen recording” from your control center so worst case scenario if you can play the video, you can brute-force record it on your screen at least and save yourself the hassle with some sort of workaround.

other than that I want to suggest adding a “pause recording” button or “save draft” or something since these are constrained by phone battery life too. I can barely get over an hour’s footage on mine before needing to recharge

Can’t be relied upon (anymore)

Update: It’s become unreliable. Apart from the level to make sure the shot is straight, I can’t recommend it anymore. I’ve had long sets ruined because the app just stops recording. This is after a reinstall. It used to be solid as a rock. I’ll stick with Filmic Pro.

This app is very helpful in that it allows the mic gain of the MV88 to be controlled via the app and not have to switch to the default audio Shure MV app. Also, the peak meters are a welcome addition too (previously I used Filmic or Impact for the meters) but this is tailor made for the hardware.
All in all, big thanks to the Shure team for a great piece of hardware and the standalone video app. Will update review after more usage and comment on any room for improvement.
