I really like tastyworks as a brokerage, but stick with E*TRADE right now just because of the app
In my opinion, tastyworks is the best brokerage out there. Good desktop platform, great service, good fills, etc. The sole reason I do not use them as my primary is the mobile app. The iPad app does not truly support landscape, which alone is a huge issue for me using the iPad Pro with keyboard. But in my opinion, the mobile app needs a full rewrite. It’s convoluted and seems antiquated in comparison to E*TRADE and TD. It’s kind of surprising to me, given that TW is so great in every other way. Again, this isn’t a knock on them as a brokerage - I really hope their mobile devs see this and take a look at TD and E*TRADE mobile apps. If they do this, I’ll move TW to my primary immediately.
👎🏽Poor Customer Service
I opened my account during a promotional period and deposited the required cash to qualify for it but was never given the promotional options. I emailed Tastyworks and they said they would put the options in my account and that it should take a few days. I waited 2 weeks but nothing happened so I called them and they apologized and said they would put it into my account and to give it a week. I waited 2 weeks again, still no promotional options, and called Tastyworks customer service back. This time I was told they never entered my choice (you could choose between options or stocks) and that’s why it didn’t go through to my account. I was told again to give it one week and the options would show up in my account. It’s now been over 2 weeks since my last phone call and still no promotional options. All in all it’s been 3 months since I first contacted them regarding this issue and each time I was told they would fix it but never did. Thank goodness this wasn’t an issue with my own money or trades because their incompetence in resolving this one issue is concerning. Now, I don’t have any faith that they would resolve any more serious issues that could arise. I’m closing my account with them.
Customer Service Experience Need Work
Today I was informed I have a PDT margin call on my account even though my account today is well over $28k. The required maintenance is $25k. When I called I was rudely greated.., actually this is nothing new. I've noticed a pattern in TW agents not being very courteous or show any appreciation or regard for me as a customer. Makes me feel unappreciated for my business. Huge deal breaker. Anyways getting back to the issue I called about, I was told their settlement company marked down the value of one my stock option which is why my account total was marked down to $20k arbitrarily . However their computer system still registers my account total as $28k. I've been a trader for over 23 years and I've never seen this level of incompetence. I'll try out TW for several more months just to give them a fair trial. So far I'm not impressed and definitely not happy. I still have the bulk of my holdings with TD Ameritrade. I was hoping TW could be my new home. Looks like I may need to continue my search for a better trading Brokerage.
