Description

Umo: Your travel companion.

Umo is your travel companion, an all-in-one transit app that lets riders at agencies that utilize Umo buy transit passes, get directions, use map navigation, find your bus schedules, and move seamlessly wherever life takes you. Umo gets you where you need to go, displaying transportation closest to you so that you can easily explore, pay and go.

Download Umo and get started today!

* Simplified Home Screen – The App’s main screen (now accessible from the new ‘Home’ tab) simplifies rider navigation for quick, effortless access to all application features.

* Easier agency Location – We have replaced “metro areas” with a new agency selection experience to make it easier for riders to locate an agency near them that uses Umo. Agencies are now clearly listed and sorted by nearness to the rider, ensuring that riders select the correct, intended transit agency when they create an account and purchase fare products. Please note that not all transit agencies use Umo and only those that are available for selection in the App are supported at this time.

* Improved Payment Flexibility – Easily buy transit passes or add money to your wallet in the app. Enjoy the unified wallet, convenient payment methods and easy viewing of fare details across agencies. Riders can also now delete their payment method at any time under ‘View My Account’.

* Contactless Boarding – The updated version of the App now has quick access to the dynamic QR code used to board from the ‘Code’ tab as well as via ‘Show Code’ links strategically placed throughout the application for faster fare payment.

* Real-Time Information – Umo uses real-time data that provides timely and highly accurate bus tracker or trip planning for those transit agencies that support this functionality.

* Trip Planning – Intuitive navigation for easy journey planning in the App.

* Enhanced Ride History – Riders now have access to more ride-history details, including month-by-month or an abbreviated history directly from the main menu for easy tracking and management.

* Accessibility – The updated Umo App is fully integrated with VoiceOver, providing an accessible and seamless navigation experience for
visually impaired riders.

* Favorites and Next Stop Alerts – Select your favorite station or stop and opt in to next-stop alerts—so you’re always on-time.

* Localization – Umo supports English, Spanish and French languages. Simply adjust your Settings to your preferred language.

This app is hot garbage.

The old in-house MCTS app wasn’t amazing, but it worked. Umo lacks significant basic functionality (i.e. day passes, group tickets for people with children, Apple Pay support, etc.). The interface is confusing and mediocre at best while the data presented is also of questionable accuracy.

Update 21 May 2024: the new version is even less intuitive and useful than the old Umo I wrote about above. I’ve noticed if you click a stop on the map it does not necessarily bring that stop up (even though it enlarges the point for said stop), but instead just grabs a list of nearby stops by GPS proximity regardless of it’s actually what you wanted - this has led to me selecting the wrong stop to view timetables.

At this point I would advise users to use Transit App as the gold standard for transit trip planning, with Apple Maps, or Google Maps being usable as well. If your transit agency selects Umo at this juncture I from the perspective of a transit user would highly question their decision making skills and even competency to deliver transit services in a quality manner.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for the feedback. Each transit agency decides what products they want to sell via Umo. More functionalities including the ability to purchase multiple passes will be available once the full system goes live for MCTS.

New update makes unusable

I don’t normally write reviews unless I’m really happy with an app, or really upset. this app was really, really good and extremely important for me making sure I got anywhere on time. it was a huge assist to be able to see real time updates of bus arrivals, which lines nearby had delays and to set desired arrival or departure times to get a rough estimate of when I needed to be ready by. then this new update arrived. this update has made the app completely unusable in so many aspects.I’m no longer able to see what the times are for incoming buses, can’t change any preferences for filters other than ‘bus, car, walk,’ when we used to be able to say things like ‘least walking’ or ‘account for slow walking’ or even ‘fewest stops’. Whoever updated this did not think this through, it’s like they took a perfectly fine app, ripped its guts out and put something comp different in place. They got rid of most the features that made this app worth using, and in my opinion went from 5 star to trash

How could an app be this terrible?

The latest update to the app ruined a perfectly functional, if unpleasant to use, app. I have to go to my transit authority’s desktop website on my phone to even plan a trip because the functionality is so poor. I can no longer see multibus trips at a glance without clicking and scrolling through trip details. My preferred routes don’t show. There are stupid pop ups that block the data. It signs you out occasionally which is annoying when you’re trying to pay. The greenline and 51 never come up in my results despite being the buses I take to work every day. The times are wrong. Buses appear and reappear with big jumps in time that do not correspond with the reality of linear time. The stupid feature telling you your healthiest option is to walk for three hours? So irritating! I don’t have three hours to walk to work. Also-why would you even suggest that when plenty people use the bus because they are mobility impaired? The app is awful in every way.
